Happy to have given them another chance.
The first time we ate at Singapore Express was not a good experience. Because we lived very close to the restaurant, a few months later I decided to give them another chance. And since then, I’ve been ordering from them occasionally.
The people working there are very friendly and sweet. The food there is generally good.
Dishes I tried:
Beef Mee Goreng
This is my favorite dish from Singapore Express. It’s a stir fried noodle dish with potatoes, tomatoes, onions, carrots and bean sprouts. I love the sweet, spicy, sour and salty combination of the sauce. I also enjoy the texture of the dish. The carrots and bean sprouts are raw so you get that freshness and crispness in every bite.
Deep Fried Tofu
I like it best right when it arrives hot and crispy. The sauce is a spicy, sour and sweet peanut sauce.
Chicken Pad Thai
I like this too eaten right when it arrives. Good textures. Today the sauce was a bit too sweet.

Goes well with UFC and beer
We had a UFC party at our place a few weeks ago. A friend of ours ordered wings and fries from this place, which I’ve heard about, but never tried.
It’s actually good. So far the only one I’ve enjoyed here in LA. The best is still Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY. I think we had the Hot and Suicide. When I got to the fries, they were cold, but interestingly and surprisingly enough, it was edible. It was good cold. How could that be??
When we have our next UFC party, we’ll have to give Hoagies and Wings a call.

Searching for some wonderful butter chicken
My husband and I were craving some Indian food. He told me about this place, Gate of India in Santa Monica and that we should try it. It was around 8 pm when we arrived and pushing it because we had our two little children with us.
Firstly, the service was great. They were very accommodating and friendly. We ordered Papadams, Chicken Makhani, Lamb Vindaloo, Nan bread and Basmati rice.
The papadams were good. I loved the tamarind sauce. The chicken makhani was ok. The Lamb Vindaloo was terrible. The meat was hard and dry. Couldn’t eat any of it. Nan bread and rice were good.
The service was good. I’m not sure though if I’ll be back. Still searching for some good butter chicken.
Dishes I tried:
Papadam
Comes with a tamarind and mint sauce. I loved the tamarind sauce.
Chicken Makhani
Lamb Vindaloo
Not good at all. I should have returned it so they’ll know.

You would think with their extensive menu of different types of Asian food, it would be bad, but it’s generally decent food with decent prices.
I like the Korean Sesame BBQ. It comes with Kim Chee. I also like the Shrimp and Vegetables Tempura and the Chicken Lo Mein.
I didn’t like the Chicken Bao, which were two steamed buns filled with chicken, mushrooms and other things.
Great price and lots to choose from.
Dishes I tried:
Chicken Noodle Soup
Good
Chicken Lo Mein
Sesame Bar-B-Q
Mee Krob
Do not like it. Still searching for a good one here in LA that uses a tamarind base sauce. Not this gross honey kind…
Chicken Bao
Shui Mai
Filled with chicken. It’s ok. Would prefer if they had shrimp and pork.
California Roll
Hot & Sour Soup
Wonton Soup
One of my new favs especially the shrimp wonton dumpling.

My daughter was craving some Matzo Ball Soup...
And I didn’t feel like making any, so I looked up a deli online and came across Izzy’s Deli in Santa Monica. I was pleasantly surprised with their food and their prices.
We ordered some Matzo Ball Soup, Liver and Onions, Fish and Chips and Bread Pudding.
The Matzo Ball Soup was alright. It was a bit bland, but my daughter liked it that way. The Liver and Onions were good. The Fish and Chips were good too. And the Bread Pudding we didn’t even eat because we full. We instead had it for breakfast the next day which was yummy heated in a pan with butter.
Definitely will try this place again. I want to try their bagels.

Swirlz survived the plane ride from Chi-Town to LA
It was well worth the wait. My sisters brought me a present from Swirlz Cupcakes. OMG. I love it!!!
They brought me a box of six cupcakes:
Red Velvet
Carrot
Vanilla Pistachio
Chocolate Peanut Butter
Vanilla
Bittersweet Chocolate
There’s not one that I didn’t like. The frosting was so good and buttery. The cake was delicious and moist. I was in cupcake heaven when I was sampling all of these. They looked so pretty too. I wish I thought of taking a picture of them all.
If I ever visit or pass through Chicago, I’m definitely dropping by Swirlz. :o)

If you're looking just for some Thai curry
There’s so many Thai restaurants in my area, and only a few that I found good. T’s Thai is good if you’re craving Thai curry.
We’ve tried the Vegetable Curry, Chicken Kang Khew Wan (Green curry , eggplant & coconut milk) and Chicken Kang Ka-Li (Chicken and potatoes in a mild yellow curry with coconut milk). It’s all good. We’ve ordered it in mild (for the kids) and very spicy. The “very spicy” is not so hot, so don’t be afraid to venture there.
I would stay away from the Mee Krob (I’m still searching for the tamarind base type of Mee Krob). Also, the Tempura Vegetables which is not tempura at all. It’s a piece of vegetable covered in this thick layer or orange dough, deep fried and super greasy. It was gross.
I liked their Fried Glass Noodles. That was yummy. And also we enjoyed the Spareribs. They give you about 5 or 6 ribs and only one rib was a bit on the tough side. But the others were good.
So if you have the need for some curry, this is the place to try out.
Dishes I tried:
Spareribs
Vegetable Curry
Chicken Kang Khew Wan
Chicken Kang Ka-Li
Mee Krob
Tempura Vegetables
I don’t even want to put a star here.

Cheese rolls rock!
I love this place. I wish it was closer. I was going to have them cater a party because I love a lot of their foods. Too bad the party had to be canceled.
My absolute #1 favorite is their cheese rolls. These flaky and sweet pastries filled with sweet cheese. It’s so good. It’s so addictive, you just can’t have one. They also have it with guava and that’s good too.
Their sandwiches are great. I love the Cuban Sandwich. They have Meat Pies, Potato Balls, Chorizo Pies, Ham Croquettes…I can go on. So far everything I’ve tried is really good.
The place is always packed. I suggest going early on the weekends. And don’t forget to pick up some of their freshly baked breads. Delicious!

Best choice for Vietnamese on the West Side
There are not many choices as Vietnamese restaurants go in the West Side and having Le Saigon here is great when you have a craving for Vietnamese food.
They have a select menu of dishes. The prices are average and the food is fresh and good.
We had the Bun Thit-Tom Nuong (Rice Vermicelli with Beef), Nem Nuong (Rice Paper, assorted herbs, and Lettuce, Charbroiled Sliced Pork, Shrimp skewer), Cha Gio (Imperial Rolls) and finished it off with Café Sua Da (Hot Coffee with Condense Milk).
Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. I would say the taste of the food was good, not great. The service was great. Our waiter was very friendly and efficient.
We will definitely come back.

Your neighborhood Sushi place
A friend of ours told us about this place a while ago and last night we finally tried it. We decided to sit by the bar to see what the sushi chef would create for us.
We had the halibut, mackerel and shrimp sushis, fried shrimp heads, caterpillar roll, shrimp tempura and a shot glass (concoction of oysters, radishes, a raw quail egg, hot sauce and other stuff…a special request from my husband to the chef). I also had a cold sake and my husband had a Japanese beer.
Everything was fresh and tasty. The tempura batter was crispy and light. It’s a definite neighborhood joint for simple and good Japanese food.
We’re definitely coming by again.
