so so

I had dinner here last night. It was very warm outside, and even warmer inside. Even when the windows were wide open, it didn’t seem to help with the heat — just let in the flies.

The menu had an interesting selection of grilled items, seafood, and paella. But the waitress was unaware of the Portuguese name of the salt cod appetizer one tablemate ordered. Most of the desserts were also unavailable — creme caramel and the traditional egg tarts were the only choices.

Service was slow and uneven, but quite pleasant. Some of us had coupons to save the taxes and get free porto, and the whole table received the deal. When there was no choice of dessert with the table d’hote, I received a café au lait at the end of my meal. However the waitress was rather pouty at the end of the night. Perhaps I should have kept her small tip to myself…

grilled salmon

The fish was grilled with olive oil and garlic. It was a good sized slice with the skin on, but not particularly memorable. It came with both a salad as appetizer, and salad on the plate — the salad on the plate was dripping with vinegar and this vinegar mixed in with the fish unpleasantly, making it soggy. Also accompanying the fish was a hunk of grilled potato and some skinny string beans. i would not order this again.
