Great steak but that's about it.

My family (party of 10) visited Adam House recently for the first time and we won’t be back.

It’s obvious that they know steaks as every one but my son’s (which was overdone and dry) was cooked to perfection and very tasty. That was the single highlight of the evening.

The decor doesn’t seem to have changed a bit since it was the Loyal Oak Tavern, the service was very slow starting from the first drink order all the way to the checks at the end. The menu is very uncreative with the standard “house starch and vegetable” being nothing more than bland red skinned mashed potato’s and your standard run of the mill summer squash, zucchini, and green beans. Of the three at the table who requested a substitution one was told they were out of green beans and the other two received the standard veggies as they forgot about their requests. The “catch of the day” was orange roughy (who serves that anymore) and it and the salmon that a few in our party ordered was bland and not one of them finished their meal. Salads had wilted lettuce, were absolutely swimming in dressing (probably to cover up the lettuce), and bread didn’t arrive until well after our salads (which took forever to get there as well).

The bottom line is that we left with the impression that this restaurant knows steaks and little more. They desperately need someone with restaurant management to run the front end of this establishment, hire capable help, and focus on the customer and their dining experience. Until they do, we won’t be back nor will we recommend this restaurant to anyone else which is sad because it would great to see it succeed.

Tasty but rough around edges

Four of us went to dinner on a recent Saturday night, place was mostly empty. Looks downright scary from the outside, but inside, the tavern moniker is apt – heavy wood and stone. The service was timely, but roughness showed around the edges. In my experience with similarly priced restaurants, non-alcoholic drinks/water are usually refilled before the glass bottoms out; there was some wait here after bottom was hit AND a request was made. A request for a butter knife was never filled. The wine list looks expansive, but I suspect it is for show – the first TWO bottles of wine I ordered were “out” [there’s that many requests for Malbec in Norton?] On the plus side, steaks were very good, although none was quite at the ordered doneness; medium was close to rare and medium-well was uniformly gray with no pink, yet they were so tasty, we didn’t bother to send them back. The cream cheese mashed potatoes were smooth and tasty, if undistinguished. Vegetables (medley of cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, squash) were actually al dente, not mushy, but I can steam veggies nicely at home; something more interesting would have been nice. One of the main advertising points is that meals are “all inclusive”; however, note that the only included salad choice is a garden salad; if you order any other salad, you pay the full salad price, not just an “upcharge” [a more polished waitstaff might have made this clear at ordering, not when we exclaimed over the bill]. Note that the Caesar is a not the traditional restaurant version (not at all creamy, no grated Parmesan) and that didn’t go over well at our table. There is no printed dessert menu; desserts and coffee were described without pricing — another waitstaff gaffe that may improve with time. We could afford to be relaxed about price; we were dining on gift certificates purchased at 50% of value. The total bill for 4 was $226 without tip, so factoring in the original price of the gift certificates, we paid about $75 per couple plus tip. That’s about right for the value received. The food is good, the steaks quite good, but the feeling of being served is not quite there yet. Get a discount coupon, easily available online, and you’ll feel – as we did – that we had a good meal for the price. [P.S. to the ladies – the restroom lock is a tavern puzzle. If you are at all modest, rotate the right side of the lock to be able to slide the bar into/out of the door jamb. Otherwise, other women will tromp in and out of the “single seater” while you are on the throne.]

good food, atmosphere -- HORRIBLE service

Let me start off by saying the food was good for the most of our group of 12 people. The prices are moderate to high which is fine, if you get service that reflects the price. One’s steak was very fatty, one asked to switch out the scalloped potatoes because they contain feta cheese and even the smell makes here ill – no substitutions were were told, yet meals game all all mis-mashed with different items than what were were told, another’s pasta was cold. The dining experience took us 3 1/2 hours and that was not because we were sitting around talking. We had to ask after 1/2 hour of taking our order, for bread (we were starving at this point). No refills on water unless requested several times and we had to go to the bar to purchase more drinks. No dishes were cleared out of our way and we had to wait another 1/2 hour for our check because the computer was down – during which time no water, coffee or orders for additional drinks were taken.

Be One Of The First This Spring To Experience This Gem

We just spent a wonderful evening at Adam House Tavern. It was a beautiful evening and we were looking for a Tavern burger to top of the beautiful day – well we found it! Before I go further I must say we will be going back we have to try the steaks and other fine offerings on the fine dining menu. This is a very nice place. It is well decorated and very clean inside. The service was excellent as well – our waiter Chris was great, very informative and helpful. The huge sirloin burgers were grilled to perfection, and served piping hot and juicy with fresh lettuce, tomato, pickle wedge on a toasted sesame seed bun. It seemd to get better with every bite! After dinner the manager Rafael gave us a tour of the renovoations – all very nicely done. We need to support local eateries like this. Why go to Applebee’s, and the dime a dozen chains, let’s support our neighbors! And no I do not know any of the owners, we just moved to Wadsworth a couple years ago and have been searching for a good local restaurant to frequent and have been very disappointed in a couple local eateries in downtown Wadsworth. Well no longer – we will be back and bring friends.

Diamond in the rough

You may have heard of the Loyal Oak Tavern of Norton. It is now called the Adam House Tavern and is under completely new management. Seemingly the entire staff have been hand picked and recruited from the finest of the most successful and highlighted establishments around. I have now eaten there five times and have been surprised every single time at how amazing the food, service, and personal service truly was. They have the best martinis around, the food is amazing, the staff is very knowable and attentive, and the prices are very reasonable. The wine list is extensive and extravagant.
With the amount of pride taken in the redevelopment of this gourmet steakhouse, we are all going to hear more and more about it as time goes on. This place isn’t going anywhere. My new favorite place to dine, taking the place of Hyde Park.

fillet, house salad, two sides, and an appetizer
