"The newer owner's are killing the place!! The quality and quantity has gone down over the past year. The waitresses are still the best but even they frown when you talk about how it's all changed. "

Me, Jane! Want MEAT!!

Anyone remember James Garner in the “Rockford Files” or that one show with Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers in that other detective show?? Or am I just dating myself?

Its like a time warp when you walk into this joint! Hell, you can tell its gonna be a trip just looking at it from the outside. It kinda has that old school woodsy hipster woodsy look from a bygone era that has degraded over the decades because the Westside forgot about developing and upgrading this intersection of Pico and Sawtelle. That would probably explain the handful of seedy T&A joints that are within walking distance?

For the closet road rager non pretentious Westsider, Billingsley is a perfect dive to just go in to have a good steak. They have a huge lot, no valet sorry!, that is never full. (Imagine that!) You can sit in there til your heart’s content and not worry if the meter is running out or if your validation will be worthless when you do finally leave.

I did say that this place was a time warp right? Lol…the host sports a pretty good Wayne Newton pompadour! The waitresses are on the “mature” side, but the great thing about this place is that no one is rushing you so they can turn their tables faster. The service here is probably what it used to be like before our society got into the “rush, rush, rush” mentality: good ole fashioned friendliness, efficiency, and promptness.

The place is dimly lit probably with old school light bulbs so even I appreciate the large font on all their menus and signs.

Everyone supposedly raves about their Green Goddess Salad dressing but to me, it just tasted like Thousand Island dressing. Hmmmm…

The salads are truly nothing to write home about. No fancy foilage used here, just crisp run of the mill lettuce.

The soups are home cooked, but have that diner quality, its definitely not gourmet.

But the cheese bread is alone worth going to this place! Its to die for! The only other place with better cheese bread is Northwoods Inn.

Their steaks – Sirloin, NY, their Rib Eye, etc….are all FANTASTIC!! THIS is what you come here for! I like mine medium rare with lots of pink. Very large portion with sides: salad or soup, and baked potato is usually what I get.

IF I were a drinker this looks like the kinda of place I’d order some hard liquor…it just has that kinda look, ya know?

But I swear every time I go there, I wouldn’t be surprised if some has been 70’s actor walked in to bask in his hey day by those that still know who he was. Instead, I make way and hold doors for the elderly because this seems to be the HOT SPOT if you’re 60 and above. No, this ain’t the place to spot Britney Spears, JLo or whoever those starlets are from some show called “The Hills.” (Now I’m really dating myself!). For those sightings, you’d have to drive a few miles east towards Robertson Blvd.

But who comes here for star gazing anyway? I come here to satiate the carnivore in me! It isn’t the BEST steak I’ve ever had, but for the money, you certainly get your value.

Roast Prime Rib

cooked to perfection…medium rare with blood.
