Blue Bat Kitchen and Tequilaria

This is a large restaurant, with 2 floors. There is a bar on both levels. The restaurant overlooks the river so in warm weather you can sit outside. Went here for Sunday brunch. Although it was busy, we were seated in an area where we were able to comfortably talk without noise from the rest of the restaurant. Very nice presentation of entrees. Several dishes are served in bowls which is a nice touch. One thing that could be improved upon is their coffee. Coffee is so important for brunch. The server told me that the coffee is not a local roaster. Milwaukee has some very good coffee roasters. Blue Bat Kitchen could improve their coffee by using a local roaster.

Bao Benedict

I ordered Bao benedict…… It was a dish of ginger soy glazed pork belly, spinach, scallion, sesame, topped with 2 eggs of my choice and a light kimchi creme.

Tasty Tacos and Great Venue

In the former Water Buffalo the outside seating at Blue Bat was outstanding and definitely made the evening. Our table had a number of dishes and drinks; all were happy with the food, service, and price point.

Portobello street taco

One of the best portobello tacos I have had. While a bit on the small side the flavors were outstanding which more than made up for the size.

Kale and Brussel Sprout Salad

One of the best kale and brussel sprout salads I have ever had. Very lightly seasoned but tasteful. Great choice of pistachios (I think) to add texture and contrast.

Love the street corn!

Went to Blue Bat Kitchen and Tequilaria with a group of fellow diners. This is in the former Water Buffalo restaurant. My first impression was I loved the bar wall of tequilas on display with a ladder for those out of reach. The tequila menu was impressive with shots from $4 up to $30! But in reality, I was there for the food. I opted for the Milwaukee Street Corn and two street tacos. The street corn was SO good, that I would go back just for that. There were three homemade sauces to add to your dishes, ranging from mild to spicy, which had very good flavor. The service was very good, and all of our questions were answered.

Milwakee Street Corn

Pabst aioli, cotija cheese, smoked paprika, Nueske’s bacon – came on the cob, with the best flavor!

Portobello street taco

sweet corn, black bean puree, cotija cheese, lime cilantro sauce – very fresh!

Smoked brisket street taco

red cabbage, pickled onion, alabama white bbq sauce – good flavor!

It’s is clean and proprietor is usually there. A varied menu and serves Beer or wine. The salads are crunchy very good. Never been disappointed. And surrounded by windows, makes for comfortable atmosphere. Booths and tables. Free dessert with some meals.
