SLLOOWW service, filthy bathrooms, interesting food

This place could be really great if they fixed a few things. It is a kind of bohemian place in a college town. The bathrooms are just plain gross, the service is very slow because the owner is like the chief, cook, and bottle washer. It isn’t well run/managed and the kitchen isn’t big enough to cook for all the patrons. The food is very good and creatively prepared which I love! The pancakes, however are never cooked through.

A gem, go out of your way to get here!

I recently tried Blue Sky Cafe, and it quickly made my short list of favorite resturants. I’ve been by 3 times in the past two weeks. This is the stort of great local restraunt you want to go out of your way to get to, to have a fantastic meal. The ingrediants are all high quality, the produce excellent.

This is a small operation, there are only a handfull of tables and a tiny kitchen. They’re closed by 5PM Mon-Thurs. Expect 45 mins from ordering to get your food. Service is generally slow. That said, it’s all worth it. You can watch your meal being prepared in the open kitchen from most of the tables.

This is what we had, and we split it all amongst the table -

Pancakes – you are given the option for 100% real maple suryp for $1.50 extra. 1 pancake feeds pretty much anyone. They’re extra fluffy, and may be a little moist in the middle. I would just asked for mine cooked extra next time.

The Mega Breakfast Sandwich- eggs, avocado, onion, tomato, pesto, smoked gouda on a multigrain foccaccia and grilled on a panini press. It was $8, and on the small side, but the taste was heavenly. The avocado was rich and creamy, which can be hard to get around here. The pesto was amazing. Highly recomended.

Home Fries with grilled onion, jack cheese, and hot sauce. $4 I have now ordered this 3 times, as I have been here 3 times. I will continue to order it every time I come. Fantastic!

Black Bean and Veggie Quesadilla – not as exciting as it should be, light on the beans. Served piping hot and almost impossible to eat. Try something else. $8

Stella Blue Salad – greens, onion, fetta, apple, walnuts, homemade blueberry vinaigrette – tasty but a little unfufilling. This would work best as a dinner salad. $7

The beverage cups are oversized, which is great for sodas and coffee but makes the hot chocolate too watered down.

Bestest breakfast in town

I had been here once before with a friend from the area and was very excited by their extensive veggie friendly menu (don’t worry carnivores, there is plenty of meat for you too). There were friendly staff, and the food was all above average. I had a fried egg reuben which I have to recommend, though if you don’t like rye bread, sauerkraut or thousand island, you won’t like this. The hash browns get a 4/5, which is pretty high in my book. It was also perfectly warm inside on the crisp fall day.

Excellent use of sour, nutty, zingy, and bitter flavors. If you like reubens, this is an excellent one.
