Fresh Italian Dining at Broders

I would argue that Broders is one of the best Italian restaurants in town. Family owned, fresh and original. Broders offers a variety of Italian dishes and everything is homemade and fresh from the bread to the pasta to the desserts.

The dining area is small, but warm and inviting. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly, making the dining experience all the more satisfying. The average table fits about 2-4, but they do allow for bigger parties if you call in advance. There is a hightop bar in the middle where people sit and dine and an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs as they prepare your food.

The menu is a good size and includes enough variety so that everyone will be able to find something they can enjoy. They also change their menu according to what is in season and always have some great specials available. Their head chef Michael Rostance is amazing.

It is sometimes tough to get in at certain times because they do not take reservations. They do allow calls in advance to put you on the waiting list (up to an hour before), but you whole party must be there in order to be seated. With the warmer weather waiting out front isn’t so bad. Servers also come outside and server wine and beer to those patiently waiting to be seated and probably even to those not so patient.

I highly recommend Broders’ Pasta Bar. You will not be disappointed.

Linguine Con Trota y Tartufi

Fresh tomato and egg linguine served with trout fillets, crimini mushrooms and truffle cream. The trout is local (from Star Prairie Trout Farm in Wisconsin) and absolutely delightful. There was just enough sauce to evenly cover the noodles and you could still taste the flavor of the fresh pasta. The truffle element gave the sauce just the right amount of richness. This was a seasonal dish (I don’t see it on the current Broders menu) so if it ever comes back I will be there for seconds!

Caesar Salad

So what is so great about a caesar salad you might ask. I’ve had my fair share from the restaurant to the bagged salad mixes you get at the grocery store, but this one really blew me away. The lettuce and parmesan were extremely fresh (no brown spots here) and extra crispy and favorful. The dressing was rich and not too tart. The big plus for me though were the anchovies ($1.00 extra, but worth it) served on top. This salad was just above and beyond. Even my non-salad eating boyfriend tried it and had to admit it was something special.
