Unexpected roadside treat!

This is a small, CASH ONLY, roadside establishment offering take-out and eat-in service Tuesday – Sunday (closed Monday) from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. They are located next to a draft horse sanctuary, which offers some ‘entertainment’ on those days when you may have to wait to be seated. Seating is either booth or table in the small dining area, at the counter, or outside (weather permitting) under canopies on the patio that overlooks the working farm. The decor is ecclectic with many kitchy cafe-type signs. Dominating the space are the bakery cases which display a wide variety of fresh breads, pastries, cakes, cookies and rolls. Most cakes and pies were less than $10.00, fancy pastries (very large) were less than $2.00.

Mexican Omelet

This 3-egg omelette was stuffed with corn, black beans, and seasoned rice and meat. Not spicy enough for my companion, who added some Tobasco, but surely tasty. It was accompanied by an ample serving of hashbrown potatoes and toast. All the toast is made from a variety of breads made on the premises. He chose the daily special – seeded rye – a rich, dense and flavorful rye that was a perfect compliment. The “bottomless” coffee was delicious.

Cheese Omelette

I chose cheddar cheese, although I could have picked American, Swiss, Provolone, Pepper-Jack or another type that I’ve unfotunately forgotten. I also added two meats ($1.00 each) to the filling. Other filling options were veggies ($ .50 each) and extra cheese ($ .50 each). I chose Oatmeal Molasses toast – a dark, slightly sweet bread that made perfect toast. Personally, I felt the hashbrowns that came with the meal were seasoned with too much paprika and that seemed to overwhelm the potato taste. Everything else was delicious.
