Café Amelie is a Favorite Amongst Locals and Tourists
New Orleans offers lots of outdoor dining and a favorite among tourists and locals is Café Amelie. There is something for everyone who flock to this café in droves. Lots of homemade soups and sandwiches help satisfy the appetite for those looking for a very casual dining experience.
I am a sucker for crab cakes and enjoy it wherever I can get it at different eating places. Café Amelie offers a great Louisiana style crab cake with a citrus sauce that is out of this world, and this is only the appetizer! I usually like to top it off by ordering a sandwich from this place as well.
There is a good variety of sandwich selections on the menu. I truly recommend the Amelie Muffaletta if you are a meat lover. The layers of this sandwich is plentiful and will definitely dance in your mouth. A good vegetarian sandwich is the tomato and mozzarella with basil.
In you are not in the mood for a sandwich then one the entrées should be sufficiently filling. I treated myself one day to the most expensive dish on the menu with the blackened rack of lamb. I have to say that it was worth the $32 I paid.
I’m a frequent visitor of their Sunday brunch, and it’s always crowded. It’s easier to make a reservation but sometimes that might even help. Always arrive early if possible because it’s a popular venue. The french toast with maple pecan glaze is absolutely amazing! Even a simple dish with scrambled eggs (all organic), grits, smoked bacon and biscuit will blow your mind. I have yet to be disappointed over brunch and I hope I never will be at all.
There is also a great selection of cocktails and a full bar to complement any dish, as seen with all New Orleans eateries.
Café Amelie seems to have it all. It has incredible Sunday brunch, a fantastic outdoor dining spot, and it’s great for the entire family. I said there was something for everyone.
