First off, this place looks awesome! It’s a Wild Bill Texas Style Tequila bar meets a dark and moodily lit Vampire Hangout. The menu is Tex-Mex. We started with the Chilean Rock Crab Cakes, which tasted like Hawaii. They are seared in Habanero and served in a coconut pineapple cream sauce that can only remind you of a Pina Colada.

The Grilled Stuffed Jalapenos, look like roasted cocks, and were mildly spicy and crazy tasty. They were stuffed with goat cheese and roasted garlic and then wrapped in bacon and served with a great ranch dressing. They are a must have.

The Pan Seared Sea Scallops are spicy coated, seared and served with a roasted tomatillo cream sauce and topped with tomato relish. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and were good but nothing
amazing. The Enchiladas Verde with Carnitas was the best I’ve ever had. The pork was juicy, tender and full of flavor and the verde sauce was just spicy enough. However, their rice and black beans suck. I would highly recommend Casa Del Matador, for the most part the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was just really cool.

Tips
  • This place looks like a potentially kid-friendly restaurant with a bar but in fact considers itself a watering hole that’s only open to guests 21 years of age and older.
  • Most Mexican joints only offer quesadillas and salads for vegetarian diners, but this bar serves up vegetarian enchiladas and Portobello mushroom fajitas to please the special diet crowd. And those popular nachos? They’re vegetarian, too.
  • Push your previous experience with tequila aside and order a shot from the bar’s list of more than 90 types of tequila. Or mellow the spirit out by ordering it in a cocktail like the Cadillac Margarita or the Tamarindo.
  • Anyone who’s been to the Matador will recommend the loaded Texas-style nachos--but they aren’t cheap. Visit from 4pm to 6pm or 10pm to 1am to try them during happy hour when the price of any appetizer drops to $4 to $5 every day.
