Simple food made incrredible, in a lovely setting

Cindy’s Backstreet, a block off St. Helena’s main street, has been one of Napa Valley’s best restaurants for over ten years, yet going there never gets old.

The décor is a subtly sophisticated backdrop for remarkable food that hits all the current buttons about “local and fresh,” without being pretentious.

Have never had a bad meal, from the most expensive featured fish to their $12 burger, but my favorite may be their curried chicken.

Service is knowledgeable and impeccable but, again, not pretentious. These men and women know the food inside and out because they love it, not because they’ve taken notes on which pepper has been sautéed with which oil.

Cindy’s is the epitome of Napa Valley dining — and try their fabulous “Sidecar named Desire” at the bar!

Curried chicken

This delightfully filling, yet light, dish is a “double” curry — a curried vinaigrette on delicious greens, and a cream thicker curry dressing on grilled chicken topping the salad.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm! What a cozy little place to have a stupendous meal in. I was recommended to this place by my roommate, a Saucier at St. Helena’s “The Martini House” a couple weeks ago when my family came down to see me for “Labor Day” weekened. It is adorable! Plus it’s cuisine is simple, fresh, and full of rich flavor. If you ever stop in St. Helena for lunch, definitely take the time to stop on by.
