Bourgeois Burger on the Bowery

So this is Daniel Boulud doing “downscale”. It’s better that you try and disassociate the chef name and brand, and enjoy the place on its own. (Think movies with way too much hype and then you see it on dvd a year later, wondering what the fuss was about).

The decor is sleek, chef kitchen/industrial. The gastropub setting works. A HIGHLY reccomend reservations (trying your luck at the cafe seating is stressful and a free-for-all where typically civilized yuppies duke it out like wild animals). Also, the main dining room has much better service and is much more comfortable. Unfortunately, I did the “cafe-seating” dance, and this is where the place lost a star. The hosting staff does nothing to help you out in this area.

The food: I had the Tuna Crudo, with sesame, watermelon, cilantro. Fresh, the flavors went very well together. I had the Frenchie burger as my main. Rich, heart-stopping, just what I was looking for that night. Frites are the Daniel Boulud frites, so they are good.

I had a sundae for dessert…if you are PMS’d or just need an indulgent, rich, goopy sundae, the mocha does it. It’s HUGE, . This thing has dark chocolate ice cream, coffee ice cream, small chocolate cookies, brownie cubes, candied macadamia nuts a big mound of fresh whipped cream. Bring reinforcements, this should be shared.

Frenchie Burger

Rich, heart-stopping, just what I was looking for that night. The pork belly and comte cheese are a great combo, melted together. Frites are the Daniel Boulud frites, so they are nice and crispy.
