Deshi Biryani

We started off with Fuska, which is chick peas served with potatoes, tomato, onions, boiled eggs and chatney. As the menu states this is their “most fun appetizer”, and they are right. You begin by cracking a hole in the fried hollow potato balls, then fill it with the chick pea mixture. While being fun it was also one of the tastiest chick pea dishes i’ve had.

Bhelpuri, a type of chaat or small plate made from puffed rice, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, chilies and a tangy tamarind sauce was our next appetizer. I enjoyed this dish most, feeling like a little kid eating rice krispie treats.

The goat in the biryani was cooked perfectly and subtle in its flavor. The basmati rice flavored with saffron and raisons, which accompanies the goat is where all the delicious goodness is. We didn’t leave a single grain on the plate.

The Rogan Josh, Steven’s choice since he was craving a curry, was aromatic and very flavorful. This became a vessel for us, scooping up curry with the poori.
