Delicious Bengali amongst the most diverse neighborhood!
As you walk along 37th avenue in Jackson Heights you’ll be tempted by Afghan, Argentine, Columbian, Mexican and Indian cuisines. With this in mind, my friend Steven and I ventured out to his old neighborhood to try Deshi Biryani, a peaceful and relaxing Bengali restaurant .
The decor is clean and inviting, service is friendly and overseen by owners who want for you to be comfortable and enjoy your evening.
Dishes Tried:
Chapati or Fuska
We started off with Fuska, which is chick peas served with potatoes, tomato, onions, boiled eggs and chatney. As the menu states this is their “most fun appetizer”, and they are right. You begin by cracking a hole in the fried hollow potato balls, then fill it with the chick pea mixture. While being fun it was also one of the tastiest chick pea dishes i’ve had.
Bhelpuri
Bhelpuri, a type of chaat or small plate made from puffed rice, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, chilies and a tangy tamarind sauce was our next appetizer. I enjoyed this dish most, feeling like a little kid eating rice krispie treats.
