Have a Zen day!

After several hours of exploring Church Street and area on a hot summer day, we were thirsty and very warm. The tea shop beckoned. It is part of a chain based in Czech Republic, with this being the first U.S. location. We sat inside among the Oriental carpets and wicker chairs, seduced by the full-blast air conditioning and the Indian music. Our waiter started us off with a taste of Taiwanese oolong, the tea of the day, and invited us to peruse the menu at our leisure. When we were ready, we had to ring a small bell and he popped over right away.

The tearoom has a gigantic menu. My tablemate initially reeled at the numbers beside the menu items, till we saw this was the table of contents, not the prices! We didn’t order food as we were more thirsty than hungry. Tea is also available by weight to take home.

This is the kind of place that fits in with Burlington: a little offbeat, very relaxing, friendly sweet staff. I left with a smile on my face. I would probably come back here.

The Chinese favorite is available in several flavors and formats. We chose black tea with cow’s milk, in the traditional format (i.e. without ice cream). It is served in a tall glass with lots of black tapioca pearls. The drink was cold but not icy cold; tasty and refreshing.
