Half autentico + half trendico = all fantastico!
I’ve been to El Cholo twice – once on a date, and once for after work drinks with a big crowd.
What I remember about the date experience was that he and I ordered an appetizer platter that was do dang ginormous that he and I didn’t even bother ordering a second course. I mean, it was HUGE.
The menu here is huge, with a blend of taco-stand favorites and more obscure (but delish) oddities.
The atmosphere is fun and festive without being too pretentious or “wannabe.”
Bottom line: Fantastico!

if you want to down tasty margaritas with your equally tasty mexican food in a Spanish hacienda-style restaurant, then head on over to el cholo. there’s nothing boring about this place. and if you’re lucky enough to be seated at the ‘nacho table’, i’m told you get an endless supply of them during your meal!

Crabmeat Enchilada (1971)
mmm…fresh seafood gobbed with cheese!? how could you go wrong? plenty of fresh pulled crabmeat wrapped w/tortilla and topped w/oodles of cheese and other of the usual goods. a honkin’ big dish replete w/rice, salad, beans…not for the faint of appetites.
El Cholo Margarita
i’m no margarita expert, but i do like them and this one was no exception. the rest of my table got L.A. Lemonades, and they seemed to like them A LOT.
Sonora Style Nachos (1983)
cheesy gooey delicious. great for groups. comes w/a little kick. chips are fresh. 5-star winner.
