Better than Biscotti

If you are from the ‘burgh then you know the goodness that is Enrico’s biscotti. What you likely do not know is that tucked behind the bakery is a small restaurant serving lunch daily and dinner two nights per month as well as several specialty cooking classes. I will address all three in this review.

For lunch the menu is mainly salads, pizza and soups. It gets really busy so come early. I have no specific recommendations as everything I have ever ordered has exceeded my expectations. I usually go for a salad and pizza.

The first Friday of every month they have a dinner which is served family style with all guests. The menu varies and is fixed for all diners. Basically chef Kate goes shopping in the morning and prepares whatever looks best and freshest to her. It is a fun time to go and eat with a friend or two. The best part is that everyone sits together so you get to meet alot of really great people. The last Friday of every month is a similar fixed menu, family style meal except the food is all classic italian dishes. I believe they are all from the proprietor’s family recipe collection.

Anytime you take a cooking or baking class at Enrico’s you will start with a family style meal. The food is not announced in advance but not to worry whatever they serve is always fantastic. While you dine they run through a bit of a lecture on whatever the class is on that night. I highly recommend the cookie class offered around the holidays.

Enrico’s has always been a gem but the new addition of the lunches and special dinners adds alot of dimension to the place.

A great way to spend a Sunday!

I attended Enrico Biscotti’s “Bread Making Class” which included a wonderful assortment of food, served family style and shared with all of the other participants. The food was out of this world—there were torta rustica, spaghetti and meatballs, beans and greens, roasted veggies, cheeses, assorted pastries, biscotti, and cookies. Wine, coffe and water were all served along with the meal. During the meal, we were told wonderful stories about the origins of bread, and then we helped create and bakes our own loaves which we later took home—in addition to leftovers from the meal! This was a great way to waste away 3 hours on a Sunday morning, and then to also have treats to enjoy later was a wonderful, unexpected touch! I will definitely check out there other events, and continue to be a faithful patron of the bakery!
