Waste of money

1) Incredibly expensive for a somehow “wanna be service”
2) Sangria menu does not include price: expect surprises in your bill… (around $30 per person, including tapas and paella, yet hungry)
3) Decoration puts me off. It rather looks like a middle eastern cuisine restaurant)
4) Tapas are expensive and small
5) Everything is about chorizo… Add chorizo to your mushroom tapa and you’ll hardly eat mushrooms…
6) Some tapas, such as “patatas a la riojana” are reduced to fries bathed with wine, paprika, and, of course, chorizo… That is NOT “patatas a la riojana”
7) Paellas are kind of small for the price. Their spices make them taste like rather middle eastern cuisine…and, of course chorizo (by the way, we don’t cook paellas with chorizo in Spain).
8) They should make a better menu (wanna be…, but after all “cutre”)
9) Good luck in the business…

It has so many (non-Spanish) spices it tastes like a middle eastern cuisine dish

Lets start with the good things. First I loved the valet parking. The last thing you want to fight with on a Saturday night is parking. Second I loved how engaged the managers were. You could really see them filling in wherever they were needed. Third the decor is just lovely it really does give you a lovely warm fuzzy feeling to enjoy a meal at Espana. This a great place to take and impress a date. A properly trained staff serves and clears from the correct directions. I am sure that this will soon be the talk of the town.

Aceitunas Aliñadas

I’ll have to give this dish an A+ for creative presentation. It is served in a martini glass with an skewered olive as garnish. The flavors of the the various olives were unique and it was just plain fun to try this dish. Where the dish failed is there is little opportunity to easily expel olive pits at a table. It would have played better had more of the olives been pitted. I also would have like to see a bit of the preserved lemon. The next time I will try the alternative version with the anchovies stuffed olives.

Mejillones al Vapor

These are essentially steamed clams in a decent broth. I rated them as a four given that they are clearly very fresh and a decent serving size for a Tapas menu item. The sauce could use a little work and wine.

Authentic Spanish Cuisine

Spanish tapas style dining in downtown Milwaukee. Great atmosphere (outside dining also) – our waiter took the time to explain all the dishes. He also talked about the history of some of the dishes and how they are created. Our party of three tried 8 different tapas. All were standouts. We also had Sangria.

Costilla al Ajillo

Rioja brazed short ribs with roasted garlic mashed potatos.

We went as a family to celebrate a couple of birthdays. We started with several different Sangria’s-all were very tasty! We had 4 tapas and a paella (?) and a salad. All were outstanding! Can’t wait to go back!
