delicious!

what a fabulous place to dine if you’re in a large party. the food here is well prepared, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious. the ambience as well is enjoyable (w/live music on saturdays as we discovered), and although casual— quite distinct w/large impressive ethiopian paintings along the walls. everyone shares their dish w/in the party so definitely the perfect place to go with large crowds. you also get to eat w/your hands, making for an even more fun time. service is down-to-earth and very friendly.

Assa Tibs at Ethiopian Diamond Restaurant

Assa Tibs

i was surprised by how fresh the tilapia actually tasted, and also by how much came in the dish. the colorful cooked veggies were a nice addition too.

Kitfo Na Gomen

the meat is spicy for sure (but probably not so for those fire eaters out there). the cheese and green collards come on the side, and combining the three in different amounts was fun to play around with.

Spinach Sambusa at Ethiopian Diamond Restaurant

Spinach Sambusa

packed w/minced spinach, these sambusas are a lot like flatter, smaller samosas w/o the spicy kick. spinach flavor is strong. quite good.

Two Hands Up!

There’s always a first time for everything and what a knockout way to enjoy your first Ethiopian experience!! No utensils – just your hands and soft, fluffy (almost foamy) textured “bread,” shaped like a tortilla, to grab the main dishes. As the pictures reveal, each person can order an individual main dish e.g. lamb, beef, chicken, vegetarian, etc. but the food comes in a large platter with the “bread” as the bottom layer and each dish separated into small heaps, to be shared between 4-5 people. The bread, therefore, soaks up all the sauces and flavor of the dishes you order. Extra bread accompanies the meal. It’s such a fun way to eat for all ages and you can have even more fun trying to feed each other, as tradition recommends. Definitely a gem, this Ethiopian Diamond!

Yebeg Alicha (Mild)

Lamb with the accompanying sauces and veggies was scrumptious! But do watch out for some pieces of bone – they can be easily confused as being a chunk of meat!

The food here is amazing, as is the decor. A family owned restaurant with commissioned painting of Adis Ababa and villages in Ethiopia. If you’re in the mood for some excellent and authentic Ethiopian food, this is the place to go. Delicious lamb, chicken, beef, and veggie dishes to please any appetite.

Worst Place ever to go and dine. Pathetic service!

We went on Nov 21st evening to try this place and used Groupon ($70 deal worth $150 for 4). Here is a narration of our nightmare:
1) First they pushed us to small tables which is kind of tight for 4 people. Knowing their serving plates are big they should have more spacious tables and sitting arrangement.

2) Our company ordered the same food as we did. Our attended didn’t even checked what is going on. After 45 min, I had to go myself to the manager (Rob) to request if we can get our food as our company had almost finished their food.

3) After escalation we got our food which was almost 1 hour after we ordered our food.

4) Our company finished their food and then our food was served we had very tight space. No attendant came to check and take the plates away. Our company had to pick her own place to take it one of the attendants to take it away. Shame on you guys!

5) Lastly, we got our desert and only 3 people got their forks. I am not sure how to eat ice-cream with my hands!

6) Lastly, insult to injury and kind of a slap on our face manager gave us 10% discount (I would keep minimum 20% tip) on the bill (Which was already paid). We had to go to manager how is he planning to give us that discount since it’s prepaid. He had no answer. (Smart move Mr. Rob!)

7) Finally, manager (Rob) said maybe they can put it on the gift card. Does he expects us to come back to a place after such a bad experience? This money doesn’t even pay food for 1 person’s dinner. So, we had to ask him that we don’t need that money and give that to our attendant.

For a restaurant which charges $150 for 4 people is by no means cant qualify for a cheap restaurant.
If you want to enjoy and have a better dining experience then this is definitely not a place for you.
