Eureka! opens 12th location in Huntington Beach, CA

In March 2014, Orange County foodies discovered American Craft food and drinks when Eureka! opened its doors at the Bella Terra in sunny Huntington Beach, CA. Eureka! opened its first location in Redlands, CA in 2009 and has expanded to a dozen restaurants in 5 years. Their motto is EATertainment with focus on elevated, all-American comfort food. The one special thing about the Huntington Beach location is the selection of craft beer on tap and small-batch whiskey, the largest selection among the 12 locations. The interior reminds me of a wharf or cannery row restaurant, lots of wood from the walls to the tables. With Huntington Beach being so close to the ocean, you almost feel as if a seagull or two will be walking around to beg for food. Since Eureka! is built into the residence buildings inside the Bella Terra, residents can also pick up food to-go along with provisions from wine to beer to whiskey. I also found that one of my favorite whiskeys, Breaker Bourbon from Ascendant Spirits, is also featured at the bar.

Eureka! Truffle Fries

Eureka! Truffle Fries are a “generous portion of signature hand-cut fries, tossed in creamy havarti truffle sauce and garnished with fresh green onions.” There is a nice truffle flavor, not too light and not too strong. The skin-on fries are crispy. The harvarti is creamy and melty. It actually reminds me of poutine. Thumbs up, way up!

Lollipop Corn Dogs

Lollipop Corn Dogs are “all natural polish sausage hand-breaded in a sweet corn batter and served with three dipping sauces: spicy porter mustard, homemade ketchup, and ranch.” The batter coating is deliciously light, while still giving you that “corn dog” feel of cake bread on the outside. The sausage is juicy and plump. The spicy porter mustard was the best dip of the three. Thumbs up!

Jalapeño Egg Burger

Jalapeño Egg Burger is topped with a “fried egg with melted cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, spicy chipotle sauce, and jalapeño peppers.” Eureka! uses 100% vegetarian fed, hormone and antibiotic free, all natural beef, cooked to your liking. It is mildly spicy. The best part is breaking the yolk for another flavor layer. Yes, it’s messy but so onolicious! The burger patty is juicy and flavorful at medium rare. The beef is so fresh I probably could have chosen rare which would make it even better. Instead of the Signature hand-cut Kennebec potato fries, Honey Cinnamon Sweet Potato Fries were substituted. They should be a dessert. The honey and cinnamon worked really well for a sweet and salty balance with the burger. Thumbs up, way up!

resno Fig Burger

Fresno Fig Burger is topped with “homemade fig marmalade, melted goat cheese, crispy bacon and garnished with tomato, red onion, and arugula tossed in spicy porter mustard.” The beef patty is juicy and cooked to your request. I would probably get the fig marmalade on the side next time since I found it a little too sweet for my palate. Instead of the Signature hand-cut Kennebec potato fries, Pacific Coleslaw was substituted. The cabbage is crisp and with the peanuts, it tastes a little Asian and worked well to balance out some of the sweetness of the burger. This burger would probably work better with the Kennebec fries to add more saltiness. Thumbs up!

Santa Barbara Kale Salad

Santa Barbara Kale Salad is “local Farmers’ Market kale, cabbage, roasted garlic, fennel, toasted walnuts, tossed in parsley vinaigrette, and garnished with dried cranberries and shaved parmesan cheese.” Chicken and avocado were added on. The kale, cabbage, and fennel are crisp and have a bright green, fresh from the farm taste. The cranberries and roasted garlic add some sweetness to the salad. The chicken breast is plump and cut into bite size cubes for easier eating. The avocado adds a buttery creamy flavor to the mix. Thumbs up, way up!

Panko Crusted Onion Rings

Panko Crusted Onion Rings are also a good side item. A Colossal yellow onion is cut into thick slices, battered, and dipped into fine panko breadcrumbs. The outside is perfectly golden brown with a crisp shell encasing tender, sweet onion inside. Thumbs up!

Goldengate Butterscotch Rum Pudding

Goldengate Butterscotch Rum Pudding is “served with homemade whipped cream, caramel sauce, and garnished with flaky sea salt.” The pudding is thick, rich, and tastes homemade. The salt flakes help balance the sweetness of the caramel and butterscotch. If you love salted caramel, you’ll love this dessert. Thumbs up, way up!
