Gene & Georgetti's Restaurant

We made reservations 2 weeks in advance for our New Years Eve dinner in Chicago at this reputed best steak house in Chicago. Ambiance, seating and service were all on target. Our food was piping hot and cooked to perfection. It’s not inexpensive, but you should know this in advance if you’ve looked it up on line – so no complaints there. It was worth it – we had a romantic dinner, in a romantic setting and the food and service were outstanding.

When we arrived in Chicago, we asked our cabbie where we should go for the best steak in town and he told us without hesitation – Gene and Georgetti’s!! We knew we had made a good choice and were glad to have booked in advance – over the phone.

I had always heard about this Chicago steakhouse as a must-try when you’re in the Windy City so when I headed to the Midwest I made sure to stop in. Wow, was I glad I did. While it’s not a black-tie kind of place you could feel out of place if you don’t put something nice on. It just has a traditional fine dining feel where the restaurant knows it high-quality so it expects its customers to match its level of class. As you walk in you get the feel that this is a place where Chicago’s powerbrokers, from gangsters to aldermen, all gather to map out strategies over wine and prime beef. While there are Italian dishes on the menu that are excellent, this place is all about their meat. The broiled bone-in rib eye is the best bet but the lamb and veal chops are made in a way where you can actually taste the pride they have in their tradition of excellence. The only knock I have with Gene and Georgetti is that their dessert menu isn’t very creative. It’s as if they spend all of their energy to make the meal so perfect that unfortunately one area had to slightly suffer. However, in the grand scheme of things it would be like breaking up with Angelina Jolie because she has a tiny pimple on her back. The rest is so good that I would overlook it

Great steakhouse. Went there for lunch and they were gracious enough to give us the dinner menu when we asked. Service was great. The waiter was friendly and super awesome. Attentive to our needs and even gave me a bigger cut of my salmon (they didn’t have the lunch-sized salmon) free of charge.

Tried the steaks from my friends and it was really good. I forgot what they were though — this review is really late and we ate there about a month ago or so.

Atmosphere here is very Chicago-ish. Good stuff. Would recommend to everyone and I will return, this time for STEAKS. lol.

Solid, very classic, steakhouse with lots of Chicago atmosphere….Had the bone-in ribeye which was very good
