Ginza

The sushi here is fresh but rather pricey, so I tend to stick to the cooked dishes, which they do very well. I often have the lunch specials, which range from tempura to una-don (eel on rice) to soba noodles to grilled salmon. Unlike many other Japanese restaurants in the area, the cooked food is of very high quality and not too greasy or over-seasoned. It may be a little pricey to visit on a regular basis, but definitely a nice place to enjoy a quiet dinner once in a while. Try the dobin mushi (teapot soup) if you’d like to try something different (but yummilicious!).

I fell in love with sushi here. It’s a great place for beginners who get skittish around raw fish. If you’re a beginner, try the backdraft maki (baked spicy fish) and the crazy maki (fried shrimp). For you raw/weird fish eaters, go for the rainbow maki (assorted raw fish) and the scorpion maki (eel). Also, get the hotate hokkaiyaki (baked scallop with spicy mayo).

Also, the gracious hosts will remember you. Especially if you dine there twice a month on your work study check. Thank you, Dept of Education.
