Brunch in the "Burg"
Located in the historic P&LE Railorad building is the Grand Concourse. It is pretty much a Pgh tradition and has been in this building for well over 25 years. The building is spectaular and you feel as though you have been transformed into another time or perhaps another country. The Grand Concourse is just that GRAND. We were there for a weekend Brunch so the service was limited with the buffet but the server we had was excellent. She was attentive and cleaned the table in a timely manner. She also went above and beyond as our personal photographer.

Weekend Brunch
Brunch at the Grand Concourse is an excellent choice. There are various stations of food to experiment. There is so much I did not eat everything they have to offer. Of particular interest to me was the appetizer table. It featured Imported Cheese Tray
Gravalox w/ Bagels
Cold Peppered Mackerel
Cold Smoked Blue Fish
Cold Smoked Mahi
Cold Salmon
Salmon Rockeller which was very good. Served hot the salmon was done just right and not overcooked topped with spinich and a betchemel sauce. I would recommend.
They also have made to order omelets which I did not try.
One thing to make sure you don’t miss is the fresh hot donuts. These are located in Charley’s (the Bar) ajoining GC They have donut machine which makes fresh hot donuts and then your choice of sugars for dipping. These donuts were so light and airy…to die for.

Dining in another century
I recently had dinner at The Grand Concourse with a large professional organization. The location is impressive- early 1900’s decor with a grand hallway, old-fashioned decorations, and romantic lighting. Our dinner included appetizers, salad, entree, and dessert. The appetizers were OK, and the ceasar salad was quite good. We waited over an hour for the dinner, but when it arrived it was worth it. My shrimp were large and well-cooked… still tender. They were coated in an Asian/Tropical inspired crunchy breading and served with a light, flavorful sauce. The creme brulee dessert wasn’t my favorite, but two of the people at my table finishd theirs. This wouldn’t be a place to go if you’re in a hurry, but it would be great for a relaxing, romantic, stylish night out. Happy hour specials might also be worth a visit.
