A great find!

Times Square is generally a disastrous place to eat, but Hagi is a wonderful find! Open late and serving up great Japanese izakaya / yakitori fare, it’s a great place to go after a night of partying in HK or just for a bite to eat! Hidden underground with an unassuming doorway leading down a flight of stairs, there is most likely a wait but it’s worth it. Once inside, it’s like you’ve escaped from Times Square and have been transported to Tokyo.

Chicken Skin

Crispy, salty, and delicious

Fried Chicken

Great rendition of a classic Japanese dish. Can’t mess up fried chicken!

Great place! Went here with some friends a few weeks ago and the food was really good. Reminded me of the small Japanese restaurants in St. Mark’s except that the decor is better and overall space is cleaner. The food is as authentic as the St. Mark’s nooks and less greasy.

Quite simply, a stunning revelation. You’ll wait for a table, but once you’ve got one it’s yours for as long as you want it. Udon noodles with Japanese mayo! Wasabi Dumplings (unbelievably amazing!)! Bonito flakes swaying in a hot breeze!

If you come to NYC, you have to try it. That’s an order, son!

It doesn’t worth to try it.

I saw the reviews were very good so I went there but I was very disappointed. Nothing was special. It doesn’t worth to try it.\r \r Food was okay. The price was cheap but the portion was really small, too. I had to order many foods.…

Great underground NYC hangout

I went last night w/ a friend and had a great time. Entered about 6pm on a Wed night and there were only 4 seats available. We sat at the bar and enjoyed hot sake and quickly (less than 10 mins) got our orders.... Kimchee, pork dumpling,…

Highly recommended

Japanese restaurant ... Midtown location ... middle of tourist area. You're thinking high prices and low quality, right? No way! This place is amazingly good and reasonably priced. I have been living here for years and I had never…

  • The place fills up quickly after 6:30pm, so get there early if you don't want to wait.
  • To find Hagi, head through the barely marked door next to Iroha sushi bar and down a flight of stairs.
  • The mildly sweet house sake, Ozeki, is a steal at $7 per large bottle, and pitchers of Kirin cost a measly $10. Sochu drinks soured with flavors like green apple and plum offer a kickier alternative.
  • Leave your cell number with the host, and go for a drink nearby until your table is ready.
