Weird, Awful Food
Yuk! This food tastes like weird, burnt barbeque smoky teriyaki. The taste is quite jarring. The teriyaki sauce tastes horrible. Shockingly bad.
The salad was quite tasty, though. The best in South Everett is still Manna Teriyaki, however. Best chicken, best sauce, best salad… best everything.
Dishes Tried:
Beef & Chicken Teriyaki
The chicken was dry and flavorless, and the beef was charred and gristly. Both of these meats are laden with a horrible, smoky, thick, burnt barbeque teriyaki sauce. The same sauce is offered to put on your rice. A miserable meal.
The salad is great, though. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Un-Happy Tummy
If you enjoy cold dried out teriyaki, Happy Tummy is the place for you. This place reminds me of a mediocre high school cafeteria. Remember those long stretching high school lines? HT has that. Remember that low quality lukewarm food? Coincidentally HT has that too. Being so close to Boeing this is an extremely convenient location for lunch, which no doubt is the only reason they are probably still in business. After giving HT multiple chances to deliver a decent lunch I finally gave up. Miako trumps HT in every way and is worth the drive. You have to give Happy Tummy credit for consistency though. Churning out lukewarm food time after time is a feat in itself.

The negative reviews that I see are very surprising to me. I would agree that Happy Tummy is probably not the best restaurant in existence; however, this teriyaki joint has been in business for over 10+ years! The food is decent despite what others might say. I’ve tried several dishes and although there are a few I wouldn’t order again, it doesn’t mean this place sucks. The food is good and reasonably priced. And there are dishes that are way better than the others they serve. I’ve eaten here many times over the last 10 years and it’s not as bad as the negative reviews state. That’s why I’ve given them an AVERAGE rating. Boeing (which is right next door) calls in to go orders on a regular basis. I’ve seen piles of orders waiting to be picked up/delivered…it’s amazing. Point is, if this place really sucked, they wouldn’t have been allowed to stay in business as long as they have! When you’re rating restaurants you can’t compare a “grab and go” restaurant to a 5 star restaurant! Be reasonable for crying out loud…

Chicken Breast Teriyaki
This dish was good, fresh, and filled me up. What more can you ask for? If I wanted a fine dining experience this wouldn’t be the place to go. But if you’re looking to quench your hunger and a bite to eat, this is definitely a place worth trying.
