Generous portions abound at this Chinese...
Generous portions abound at this Chinese restaurant which offers both cantonese and szechuan cuisine. You can order any of the entrees a la carte or as part of their dinner plan. The dinner includes soup, an egg roll and dessert. They even have a kids menu which offers very generous portions for less than $5.
The pan fried dumplings- which come in either small (4) or large (8) were excellent. The wonton soup was chock full of wontons and sliced meats. The eggroll was not too greasy and had a nice meat and vegetable filling.
We had the imperial shrimp which were fantastic! Crispy shrimp in a slightly spicy sauce with cashews and cherries. We also had the beef and scallop special dish (I forgot the name) and were disappointed that the sauce did not have as much of the black pepper flavor we hoped it would based on the description and the meat could have been a little more tender. It was also a bit saucy. My son’s chicken lo mein had lots of pieces of meat with the noodles. Even their oolong tea had a nice taste. Dessert included a variety of ice cream or almond cookies.
The service was great- it seems like he hostess knew many of the customers. They also seemed to have a good take out business.
For about $50 we had enough food for 2 adults for 2 nights! Next time we are in this area this will be on our list.

Got me sick
I got General Chicken (General Tsu’s Chicken) and it was disgusting. I also had the wonton soup and white rice. The broth of the wonton soup was watery, the rice was fine (what Chinese place can mess up rice?), but the chicken made me sick. I was debating calling them asking for my money back. First off, it was in a gross thick, slimy sauce with peppers stacked on top. It stank to high heavens. I ate maybe 5 pieces of the chicken (tasted almost good once I wiped the sauce off) and then threw it all out. I felt very sick the rest of the night and almost threw up multiple times. The only reason I’m giving this place 2 stars and not 1 star is because the host was kind when I went to pick up my food. He also spoke very good English.

the best around
Hong Kong Garden serves the best chinese in Lancaster County. The owners are very friendly, the decor clean and cozy, The menu is diverse and the portions are ample, but most importantly, the quality of the food is much higher than the average strip mall chinese place…you can taste the difference in everything from sauces to entrees. The dinner menu is a bit more pricey than other places, but the higher quality of the food is worth it. My favorite dishes include the cellophane noodles, wor won ton, steamed dumplings and general shrimp, but i’ve never left hungry or disappointed.
Dishes Tried:
Beef Cellophane Noodles
Awesome. Quality beef, and perfectly cooked veggies mixed in. Enough for 2 to share.
Wor Won Ton
Handmade wonton in a flavorful broth, along with pork, chicken and shrimp. I crave this soup now.
Steamed Dumplings
Dumplings are one of my favorite things to eat, but what really makes the dumplings from Hong Kong Garden special is the dipping sauce.
