India Kitchen was the first Indian restaurant in Albuquerque, and theres a good reason it’s still going strong in it’s 33rd year. It’s simply the BEST IN THE CITY! My husband and I dine there at least once a week and have been regulars there for more than 18 years. Why? The food is not only excellent, it’s extremely healthy, so we feel really good about eating there so frequently.

The atmosphere is especially nice—homey and comfortable and lovingly decorated with art from India. The owners, Ajay and Rajul Gupta, are kind and caring and graciously accommodate any dietary needs. Ajay cooks everything no salt/no fat for us, which is very much appreciated. His knowledge of spices is simply incredible!

We almost always order their delicious vegetarian mulligatawny soup and garlic nan to start our meal and did so again this past Wednesday. Our soup was followed by the arrival of our dinner plates, which always include rice, papadum and yogurt & chutney. For entrees we chose strawberry masala with fish (salmon), alu saga (potatoes & spinach), and scallop eggplant. We always order 3 entrees so we can take some home for another meal. Everything was so tasty it was hard not to finish it all on the spot.

For dessert we enjoyed the half combo we order most often: Rajul’s carrot pudding, rice pudding, mango frozen yogurt, and mango sorbet, along with steaming mugs of Indian spiced tea. Wonderful! Beer and wine are available and are very reasonably priced.

I cannot recommend India Kitchen more highly. My husband and I consider it our very favorite restaurant.

We have been going to India Kitchen since it opened over 20 years ago. The excellence of its food and atmosphere has been unsurpassed by ANY other in town or out of town. We choose to go here for celebrations or just a light dinner of soup and naan. Do not miss the desserts- so so delicious! Honestly we have NEVER been disappointed by our meals.
