Dark As Night

Not a warm ane fuzzy place to eat…This place is dark as night inside..be sure to pack a little flashlight in order to read the total of your food bill. Buffet is lit up like a ball park but the dining area isn’t..I almost sat in a man’s lap because I didn’t know he was sitting there….I hope the owners will do something about their lighting situation..no one likes to eat in the dark..you are living in Texas for god’s sake..not India….plus turn your TVs down or off and play some nice background music… OPEN UP YOUR HEAVY DRaPES and TURN ON THE LIGHTS!!!! PEOPLE LIKE TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE EATING…..Service isn’t all that great…waiters / waitresses are NOT freidnly… Tacky store front..It doesn’t fit in this classy neighborood..Think about removing your not so great looking painting images on the glass..wash them sparkly clean..make it more inviting.

Worst Indian Food in Austin

0 Stars….

The service is terrible, in that, the 2 men (father and son) that run the place are rude, obnoxious and walk away when you ask any questions.

Dirty plates, and water glasses. When I asked for a fresh water glass withOUT any lipstick stains, they refused.

Food on the buffet was stale, stale, and STALE. It tasted weird, and it was cold. The naan and bread were hard as rock, the lassi was a concoction of color with yoghurt (no flavor whatsoever).

The business practices are unethical. They do not present you with a broken down receipt, just a hand written note with a total. When I asked to see a breakdown, they had overcharged by $12.00.

When I brought this to their attention, the elderly man running the place threw a water full of glass on my lap and asked me to pay regardless.

I will be contacting the health services (cockroaches on the edge of saag paneer buffet tray) as well as the Better Business Bureau.

This place needs to either be run by scrupulous folks, or needs to be shut down. Period.

  • Note my other 60+ reviews. This is my first 1 star experience, and a pathetic one to say the least.

Incredible fish curry and lassi, incredible service. A tad expensive for the portions but you will not regret ordering delivery from them! The pakoras are amazing and make sure to order naan.

A Deli chowhound from Austin, TX tried Stephen F. Austin Cafeteria in Downtown, liked it, and rated it . They liked the food, liked the service, and liked the ambiance.

Much improved overall in the past year or so. Good salad bar, many more fresh pre-made options for grab-and-go. Grill food (e.g. hamburgers, grilled cheese, tots, etc.) are well made to order. They have a new chef and the hot food from the line is tasty
Ranch dressing at salad bar is bottled (yuck) - it's easy to make this dressing fresh, and I'd buy more salads if the Ranch were tasty. Prices overall are acceptable, but the desserts are too high, especially since most are modest portions of cakes, pies,
The staff (especially Shane and Rene) are polite, friendly, helpful, and diligent. They make dining at Happy Cooks a better experience.
