Johnny's Tavern

Johnny’s Tavern has excellent pizza! I hesitate to tell this because I hate sharing, especially when it comes to pizza. I like having the Shawnee Johnny’s pizza to myself. The crowd at Johnny’s, especially on a recent Monday night, seems to be more interested in what sports are on TV and what beer is on tap, but they’re missing out. The stone oven pizza at Johnny’s has just the right chew and crunch to its crust, with just the right proportions of toppings, cheese, and sauce. The one-size-fits-all works well to satisfy for dinner if you’re hungry or provide you with tomorrow’s lunch (in other words, it’s plenty big). If you need an appetizer, the honey BBQ wings are sweet and kicky and I can’t say enough good things about the blue cheese dressing/dip. Thick, chunky, blue-cheesy—it doesn’t go easily on a salad but it sure tastes good. Service is friendly, prompt, and we always leave happy. But please don’t go telling everyone—this can be our secret, right?
