lots of buzz

I was here in the evening. The café is split on two levels and there were people sitting everywhere. Many of them were glued to their computers. It was terribly warm in the building. I met my party upstairs.

Orders are placed at the counter, and items that take longer than a few minutes are delivered to the table. “Here’s your number, just put it on the table and we’ll find you.” Well it took more than 20 minutes for my half-sandwich to be prepared and delivered, mere steps away from the kitchen. (And we had moved our seats on top of it, yet still within eyesight of the order counter.) I was close to giving up, wondering if I should cancel the order I had already paid for. I waited so long I was able to snag an empty beer bottle off the next table, to cash in later at the grocery store.

The room was quite loud, between the music and the conversation level. It was next to impossible to hear a Skype conversation, and the din got worse the longer I stayed. When a staff member came around to announce a trivia quiz event starting shortly, I took that as my cue to leave.

apple cider

It just seemed to be apple juice with a lot of ice, served in a mason jar. Nothing special, but very refreshing in such a warm room.

pork sandwich

This was a pulled pork sandwich with pickles, served on ciabatta bread. As a half-sandwich, it was only one small forlorn piece. The sandwich was spicy and it fell apart while I was eating it. It was served with coleslaw and kettle-cooked potato chips.
