An exquisite, special treat that is well worth the price

Tonight everything my friend & I tried was excellent as far as flavour and presentation. It was obvious that the kitchen had gone out of their way to make sure that the food was garnished and arranged perfectly.

The service was prompt & friendly with an “empty glass rating” of 5 minutes or less. This means that the wait staff check in with your table regularly to ensure you’re fully satisfied with both meal and service.

There was a variety of music playing softly in the background and the conversations from other tables were quiet enough to have a conversation with my friend and regular volume.

I definitely recommend The Keg to those who have the budget to celebrate, impress an important date, as well as for business dinners.

Pecan Sirloin Steak

One of my friends was disappointed when this item was removed from the regular menu. It now makes an appearance as a daily special. If you’d like to try this dish then try phoning ahead to ask if it is available that day. If not, then my next favourite entree is the Chipotle Onion Steak that is packed with sweetness and great flavours.

I ordered the steak medium-well the way I like it and considered getting it “Chicago” which means they cook the inside the way you like and then char it extra on the outside for a nice coating of blackened crispness that adds an extra bit of smoky flavour to the meat.

Then they add some sweetened, roasted pecans to the top of the meat which give it a flavour that you may parallel with barbeque sauce on steak.

Then finally the pecans are topped with a nice, thick, creamy goat cheese that totally ties it all together for an excellent flavour explosion. For those who aren’t sure about trying the goat cheese they use, it is a refined version of cream cheese similar to Philladelphia Cream Cheese with a very subtle flavour that adds creaminess without overwhelming the steak & pecan flavour.

I didn’t know if I would like this combination of flavours, but my friend insisted that it was one of their best signature dishes so I thought I would try it. And I’m so glad that I did!

It comes with a baked potato, which tastes excellent with the three-cheese blend, a small cup of au jus steak drippings that you can add to the potato, and a roasted tomato topped with herbs & melted cheese that make it taste like a sundried tomato.

Garlic Cheese Bread

An excellent appetizer to start the meal.

Extremely tasty, it is made from French stick bread that is treated with garlic butter then smothered in melted cheddar, Monterey Jack, & parmesan cheeses that are laid on almost as thick as the bread itself. Then the cheese is nicely browned & bubbled to bring out the full flavours.

It’s very decadent and equally delicious! The taste reminds me of the “Saganaki OPA!” appetizer from another of my favourite restaurants because it somehow takes on the slight flavour of vinegar or something slightly sour in with the creamy, rich goodness of the appetizer.

Tonight was the best garlic bread I have ever tasted! A very generous amount of cheese made all the difference.

Creme Brulee

This dessert is a serious temptation for anyone who enjoys creamy desserts!

I highly recommend trying it at least once, but if you’re uncertain of how to pronounce the French name for this dessert, it is pronounced “krem broo-LAY”.

They start with a thick, creamy, sweet custard and then proceed to scorch the sugar on top to form the crisp brulee surface.

Extremely decadent, very creamy, sweet without being too sweet. Imagine yourself moaning while you’re eating it and you’ll get an idea of how good it tastes. And the creme brulee at The Keg is the best version of this dessert that I’ve tried.

It even comes with a mint leaf which you can rub between your fingers if you’d like to smell of mint. Actually, it’s there to add that extra splash of colour to the dish and show that the kitchen took care in preparing it for you.
