Very good live seafood
Instead of going to NBC today, we went to a less crowded restaurant but one that’s still very good. After the meal, I’ve concluded that living in Monterey Park would severly shorten my lifespan. There’s just so much good Chinese food and it’s so much cheaper than anywhere else. The seafood is so fresh and well prepared. It’s always fun when restaurants bring out the live lobster for you to see. The first one they brought out was huge! We had to ask them to find a smaller one.
Kim Tar has a good selection of fresh seafood and their House Special preparation is very tasty (although it’s fried so it’s a bit oily). My grandparents come here often, so the people knew them as soon as we walked in and we got very good service even though they had a couple missteps on the food.
If you don’t feel like fighting crowds at the other hot spots in the area but still want good live seafood, check it out.
Dishes Tried:
Crab Meat and Fish Maw Soup
Tasty fresh crab meat with fish stomach (it’s tasteless) in a nice starter soup. Not bad.
Steamed Tilapia
Taste was good, but I think it was slightly undercooked in the middle so it didnt exactly flake off the bone.
House Special Scallops
Wow, these scallops were HUGE and TENDER. The house special sauce has a nice hint of sweetness. Phenomenal.
House Special Squid
Similar to the House Special Scallops, but with Squid. Same sweet sauce, but I think scallops are better than scallops. The squid was quite tender though.
Lobster with Scallions and Ginger
Chinese-style lobster is sooo good. The sauce is awesome and the meat was very fresh and tasty. Mmmm, lobster.
Salted Fish with Chicken Fried Rice
One of my favorite dishes, it wasn’t done too well this time. They rushed it so the salty flavor wasn’t evenly spread out across all the rice, but it was still good.
