Don't let the neighborhood fool you!

Probably one of the best kept secrets around. From the outside, it doesn’t look like much…but it’s not uncommon to have to park and walk. There are two tables, but you probably don’t want to eat there. 99.9% of their business is carry out. They are frequently busy, and you’ll sometimes see local news reporters, police, fire…and just plain folks. They are located at the corner of Gratiot & St. Aubin, immediately east of Orleans street and Eastern Market. They have quite a bit on their menu and it’s all good, although my favorite is the rib tips.

Most dishes come with two corn muffins. Be aware that they are the real southern-style corn muffins, made with white corn meal and they are not sweetened – they are NOT like the corn muffins you get with Jiffy Mix, or would be served at Famous Daves or Boston Market. These are more dense and nowhere near as sweet! But they are a great change of pace.

Rib Tips Dinner

I usually get the rib tips withe the sides of red beans & rice and greens. I eat the greens, eat the rib tips, and then scoop the red beans and rice into the remaining barbecue sauce.

The greens are great – I believe they are collards – and are nicely cooked with onions.

If you don’t like those sides, they also usually have green beans, candied yams and macaroni & cheese. I cannot vouch for how good the yams or mac & cheese is, because I don’t like them, but they seem to be VERY popular.
