Very good restaurant on the Peninsula
Lure is a restaurant in San Mateo, but it feels like a restaurant in the city.
The interior design is modern and sort of small/cramped (but not TOO cramped), like most of SF’s trendy places.
In addition, I would consider it among the best higher-end restaurants on the peninsula (ie, not counting SF and SJ)…Evvia is perhaps another.
We had some great appetizers, including a sardine dish which was the best sardines I’ve had, and mussels (steamed in broth) which were perfectly done (mussels, if done wrong, can shrink up and get small/dry, but they did all of them perfectly).
The entrees our table got were all great. This time around, I was the one that ordered the closest to “wrong”, as I got a sea bass in a red pepper sauce which was good, but not as good as the other dishes.
Desserts were solid, if somewhat simple. I had a chocolate ice cream sandwich sort of thing which hit the spot and had a great dark chocolate fudge sauce.
Also worth mentioning were the petit fours that came at the end of our meal: awesome! I usually don’t expect much frmo petit fours, but these were the best I’ve had!
Among the best seafood restauarants I’ve been to, Lure is as good as any seafood in SF (though I’ve yet to try Aqua…).
