Excellent French cuisine and charming owners

I have never had a disappointing meal at this restaurant. The ambiance is perfect – an old house beautifully decorated with lovely wallpaper and wainscoating. The chef and his wife are wonderful hosts.

I’m most familiar with the Sunday brunch menu and can say the food is excellent. I’ve enjoyed the Coquille Saint Jacques, the mille-feuille of scrambled eggs (especially when served with caviar), and I’m especially fond of their baby calves liver Lyonnaise, I’ve enjoyed their omlettes and salads, particularly the spinach with poached pears.

Baby Calves Liver Lyonnaise

Accompanied by bacon and onions, this Baby Calves Liver Lyonnaise is as tender as one could hope for. Flavorful and moist, it is perfection.

Good Classic French Food

This is a rather cozy, formal classical French restaurant in an odd location. It’s run by Madeleine who is the hostess, and her husband Gaspard, who was once the Executive Chef at Tavern on the Green.

The food is well prepared of fresh, high quality ingredients and attractively plated.

The prix-fixe menu remains a great bargain, but alas, does not contain his better dishes. The regular menu features dishes from $28 to $36, and I have had the Duck Confit a l’Orange $32.50 as well as the Pork Medallions $29.50. Both were quite good, as are his desserts.

Unfortunately we had a surly and rather stupid waitress, who, knowing we were interested in the chocolate soufflé for dessert, failed to tell us that it took a half-hour to prepare and thus had to be ordered at the same time as the entrée.

If you like classic French food, and find yourself in the norther suburbs, it’s a good choice.

Tres Bon At Madeleine's

A warm baguette on arrival, and the best Raspberry Cosmopolitan ever. Everything at Madeleine's is "just so." The lovely and discriminating owners insist on only the best for their customers. Elegant but not snobbish, the Chef aims to…
