All the Fat you can Eat!

Lately, I avoid the “all you can eat” Brazilian Steakhouses, because I just can’t eat enough meat to justify the cost. I’ve lost over 30 pounds and want to keep it that way. That’s why my wife and I sat at Mastergrill’s bar and ordered a sampler plate. But wait, they now had a “Premium Sampler”. We were asked if we wanted a single trip to the salad bar for $6.00 each and we said, “Sure”. Good thing, because the salad bar is all that was edible.
The bartender was beautiful, so maybe that’s why everyone overlooks the fact she is a terrible server. They offer a happy hour until 8:00 P.M. and have two sizes of draft beer; the small is $2.00 and the large is $4.00. I asked if the large was twice the size as the small, and was it “its close”. Well, I do know bar glasses, and the small appears to be a 12oz glass, and the large a 16oz…hardly twice the size. I ordered two small beers.
You would think that the server would ask if you wanted to wait for the hot platter until after the salad, but not here. It came within 5 minutes of our salads. Just as well, as the platter was a pure fatfest! Absent were my favorite Portugese sausages or any lean cuts of meat, and my pile o’ fat seemed larger than the meat originally brought.
I asked what the ball of fat was, and was informed it was filet mignon (seriously). I told her it was not edible, but I don’t think she understood what that meant. The manager walks by and sees a plate full of fat pushed forward, and when I wave at him to come over, he simply vanishes, never to return.
The bartendress asks if I want to take the uneated slop home, and I again inform her it is pure fat and not fit for human consumption. She says O.K. and takes the plate away, leaving the small soup bowls we had finished an hour earler to age further.
The only thing more astounding than the horrible food and worse service was the fact the manager saw it all and just accepted that all was fine.
What will be more astounding is if you ever find me in here again…

Premium Meat Sampler

This dish costs $3.00 more than the standard sampler, which is what I wish I had ordered. It consisted of only two types of what they purported to be beef and 3 slices of grilled pinneapple.
The beef was some slices of a very fatty cut (maybe Chuck?) and two “mystery” balls of fat. I asked what they were and was informed they were Filet Mignon, which is normally the leanest of lean cuts. I could not find any meat worth putting into my mouth in this “ball o’ fat”.
My take is that they toss what no one else will eat on the sampler pile. When you are serving over 15 kinds of meat, I would hardly call getting two of the worst a “Premium Sampler”.
