hearty affordable fare, but skip dessert

I was here for dinner on a chilly winter night — the perfect night for this kind of cuisine: solid hearty comfort food, warm and (mostly) satisfying. While the staff welcome was warm, the dining room was almost as chilly as the outdoors. The waitress brought over a portable heater to help us thaw out.

Not being very familiar with Polish food, I stuck with one of the specials that included a bit of everything, including soup and tea. Dessert tempted me — one I had was passable, one that was passed around to taste was inedible.

meat combo

This plate included a massive potato pancake (more like a giant latke), two small pierogies packed with ground beef, a generous helping of Bigos (mild warm sauerkraut with sausages), and a golden onion condiment. I loved it all!

pea soup

Soup was included with the combo. Normally I am not a fan of pea soup, but this was amazing. The green peas peeked out from among many chunks of carrot and soft potato, all swimming in a hearty flavorful broth. And it smelled wonderful. I could have eaten a big bowl of this for a main course!

(check spelling of the dessert) A “stripey” chocolate and vanilla cake, with many layers in alternating flavors. One of the layers included a nut filling. It was just ok, a bit dry, and I expected a bigger slice for the price.

apple square

It looked so pretty: a large square of cake with a generous amount of apples, a crumble topping, and a crown of whipped cream. but one bite and I pushed the plate away. it was doughy and extremely heavy, as though it hadn’t been baked at all.

Good Pierogis

It’s a very good restaurant. It was our first time trying Polish food so we went with the “Mixed Plate”. It had a little of everything and it was very delicious. The Kielbasa was very good and so were the Pierogis. We will be returning again for sure. Very recommended.

Great Polish Food!

Mazurka offers a wide array of authentic Polish food. It’s been open for ages. They also have great daily specials that include soup & bread, main dish and coffee/tea for less than 10$. Its unpretentious and the food is really good. Great comfort food for a cold winter evening.

I personally love their meat combo and beet soup!

Its the kind of place you can go for a meal on the go, with friends or on a date. They also have a back room and a reception room on the upper floor for big groups.
