Special is Great Value

Off we went for a nice night on the town starting with Morton’s The Steakhouse- getting the Steak and Seafood for Two special ($99 for two) which is still available till September 30th.

The offer includes 2 single cut filets, each person gets a choice of a seafood item (Shrimp Alexander, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, or Broiled Sea Scallops), each person gets a choice of a salad (Caesar or Morton’s), 1 signature potato to share, 1 fresh vegetable to share, and you each get a choice of a dessert (Hot Chocolate Cake or Key Lime Pie).

When you walk in you are greeted by a romantic and masculine atmosphere and smiling hostess. Then the charming Maître de walks us to our table that is crescent moon shape- his whisks the table out so you may walk in to sit side by side. Once your drinks are ordered you are then presented with a menu presentation with live lobster and all. They explain all the cuts of meat pointing out each one and show you the different fresh vegetables they use.

We ordered one of each of the salads. The lettuce was very crispy and cold. In fact I had never had lettuce that was so cold when you bit into it. It made the salad and lettuce seem very fresh and not get soggy from the dressing. The Caesar salad dressing was peppery. The Morton’s salad had a Blue Cheese dressing. Overall, with the quality of lettuce both salads were pleasant and crisp.

For our seafood choices we picked the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake and the Broiled Sea Scallops (wrapped in bacon with apricot chutney). The crab cake was sweet and had hardly any filling and was almost all lump crab meat. My husband believes it was one of the best crab cakes he has had. The scallops were perfectly cooked and weren’t tough or rubbery.

The Filets were very flavorful, juicy and tender. My Husband had is cooked medium-well and they butterflied it so that it wouldn’t become charred. I ordered mine medium, however, it was served more towards the medium-rare side but still was very good and not extremely underdone. All of their meat is USDA prime-aged, Midwest grain-fed beef, shipped directly from Chicago. We both agree that our Filets were one of the better ones we have had.

We picked the Grilled Jumbo Asparagus with a balsamic glaze and the Hashbrown Potato. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and very fresh. The potatoes were served with butter, sour cream and bacon if you wanted to add them.

For dessert we both had the Morton’s Legendary Hot Chocolate Cake which had to be ordered with the rest of our meal because of the 30 minute preparation and cooking time. AS soon as you cut into the center of the cake a gooey molten liquid chocolate oozed out. It was served with Häagen-Dazs Vanilla ice cream. With each bite you would combine a piece of cake, ice cream and molten chocolate and enjoy a mouthful of bliss. It was very rich but for all those chocolate lovers out there it was Heaven!

The wait staff was very friendly and pleasant. This experience is not a rushed affair so for your next special occasion or romantic night on the town this would a nice place to dine. The current Steak and Seafood for Two ($99 for two) is a great value for a high end steakhouse experience (Hurry because it ends September 30th, 2008).
