The BEST Persian food in the OC

This place is one of the best mom and pop hole in the wall Persian places I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating at. No attitude because I’M not Persian, haha!

I was introduced to this place by one of my BFF’s Eva a few years ago, so I’m always glad when we’re in the area and decide to eat here as was the case last night with my 6 other scrapbooking buddies. Half of us were Persian food lovers, the other half were newbies.

This is the one time I soooo wish I was still eating meat. I would have ordered their cornish hen kabob plate, but I ordered a vegetarian plate instead.

  1. Vegetarian $7.99- 3 falafel patties, humus and Kashke bademjan (eggplant dip). I’ve noticed that a restaurant’s humus is usually a good indicator of the rest of the food they offer. I usually prefer humus with a generous helping of tahini for that extra kick in flavor. Their humus is fantastic! Now the eggplant dip is a bit heavier in texture and was absolutely divine! I can’t even explain how wonderful this dip was as it really elevated the falafel patties to a whole new level that I quickly forgot about the humus. There was nothing wrong the falafel here, but in general, falafel alone is not very tasty. I see that they have the Kashke bademjan alone as an appetizer, so I’ll be ordering this next time I’m in the area. That’s how much I loved it. Should be wonderful with warm freshly baked lavash bread, which unfortunately Naan & Kabob doesn’t have. :( Their lavash seems like its served from a prepacked plastic bag, which isn’t a deal breaker for me.

My other friends had (which all come with basmati rice, grilled tomatoes and a small salad)

  1. Chicken/Beef Barg Kabob Plates $13.75
  2. Chicken Barg Plate $7.99

My girlfriends Jackie, Eva and I shared a # 22 Fesonjan $7.99 which looks alot like mole on first glance. Its a dark chicken stew served with basmati rice. We loved the stew to garnish what we were already eating, i.e. falafel, chicken and beef bargs. I didn’t eat the chunks of chicken in the stew though in keeping with my No Meat Resolution.

I decided to venture out of my comfort zone by trying a DOUGH drink which is a yogurt based soda with mint leaves. This was very strong for me and definitely an acquired taste. Not for me in the future, but I’m glad to have tried it.

All in all, quality of food, value for the money, customer service, friendliness and cleanliness of restaurant have been consistent over the past 7-8 years I’ve been visiting. That’s definitely something to be celebrated.
