The Island;s Go-To Spot For Oysters & Stunning Sunsets!

For more than 20 years, Old Oyster Factory waterfront seafood restaurant has been serving the Lowcountry’s cravings for fresh seafood, savory steak presentations, and oysters in particular among many other specialty items crafted in the restaurant’s kitchen by Chef Andy Love. Formerly, the location existed as the Old Broad Creek Oyster Factory that sat atop a one-story concrete authentic oyster cannery many years ago which harvested, canned, and shipped their collective mollusks to the surrounding Lowcountry areas. Over the years, the marshes of Broad Creek became protected from commercial harvesting, which is the stunning backdrop you see now from the restaurant’s multiple observation areas.

Old Oyster Factory prides itself for being a premier seafood restaurant catering to area locals as well as those who visit occasionally (like ourselves) on a regular basis when sojourning through the South. Scores of tourists flock to this eatery for the same fresh seafood favorites year after year, many becoming regulars when they return.

The views alone, especially at sunset, are worth the drive or flight to stop in and see what everyone raves about here. Unimaginable views of the marshlands of Broad Creek expand as far as the eye can see while as the sun sets slowly beyond the horizon, the view becomes even more magical. At certain times of year, one may sometimes also catch a glimpse of the rowing team of a local scholastic institution drifting past.

Dining at Old Oyster Factory can be one of the most relaxing and enjoyable casual affairs one can imagine. A plethora of specialty entrees from Stuffed Flounder to divine succulent steaks, to signature pasta compilations to oysters prepared as plentiful as one can imagine, to refreshing libations and Bar Menu items will leave you speechless and ready for more. The establishment offers their popular Happy Hour from 4:45 PM until 8:00 PM, as well as a famous Sunset Menu featuring 2-course flavor-rich items that will leave you both happily pleased with the price and excited to partake in such a culinary event.

INSIDER’S TIP: Be sure to try the restaurant’s hushpuppies…they’re a favorite sinful conglomeration of secret-recipe ingredients that you won’t regret trying for yourself.

When enjoying raw oysters, I have made it a tradition to enjoy Greyhounds as my libation choice for such a culinary involvement. It’s just something I began years ago, and it sort of stuck, so that’s where that came from. Above, the Oysters Savannah are crafted with shrimp, crab meat and smoked bacon stuffed into a half shell then smothered with Cheddar cheese and baked again in a hot oven until they are lightly browned on top and calling to you with their visual appeal and enchanting aroma. And a traditional stand-by favorite, the Oysters Rockefeller with their smoked bacon, spinach and sinful Béarnaise sauce really hit the spot in conjunction with the other oyster variations we have experienced.

◾ESTABLISHMENT / DECOR: Complete with an expansive deck and outdoor covered porch dining area, Old Oyster Factory offers panoramic views of the area’s stunning sunsets over the expansive marsh landscape of Broad Creek. A spacious indoors allows for multiple seating options including private dining rooms, open traditional seating for dinner, and an accommodating bar in the roomy lounge overlooking a serene water view. Indoors, patrons will feel welcomed with warm woods throughout, the cozy feeling of being somewhere comforting, and assured that they have arrived somewhere where they will be greatly appreciated.

◾FOOD / DRINK: Fresh seafood is the restaurant’s specialty, while savory steaks and other comforting dishes appeal to most anyone. A special Gluten-Free menu is available, as well as a menu for lighter entrees. We have made this our home for enjoying oysters in the lounge when we visit the Lowcountry of South Carolina. From Happy Hour oysters on the half shell, to Oysters Savannah and Oysters Rockefeller, there truly is no place better that we have found in the area for indulging. Additionally, the eatery’s Sunset Menu offers a 2-course menu selection for just $15.99 a person.

◾LOCATION: Old Oyster Factory is conveniently located at 101 Marshland Road on Hilton Head Island, SC 29926.

◾HOURS: Open daily from 4:45 PM through 10:00 PM daily, Old Oyster Factory offers their famous Happy Hour in the lounge and at the bar from 4:45 PM until 8:00 PM, as well as a pretty satisfying Sunset Menu from 4:45 PM until 5:45 PM.

◾SERVICE / STAFF: The staff at this establishment could not be kinder, more accommodating, or more friendly. They treat newcomers like old friends, and locals just the same creating a feeling of family at any given time.

◾PRICE / VALUE: The value of the cuisine and beverages offered is spot on in our opinion. Never have we felt anything was overpriced for the quality of what was offered or that the fare was never at its top freshness.

◾CORKAGE FEE: $15 per 750mL bottle

◾CONTACT INFO: Phone: (843) 681-6040, Website: www.oldoysterfactory.com

◾PARKING: We have always self-parked our own vehicle when visiting Old Oyster Factory in the past, however on more populated evenings, we have noticed that valet service is available at the drive in front of the main entrance.

◾PRICING: The Oysters Savannah and Oysters Rockefeller we have enjoyed on our numerous visits to Old Oyster Factory were fairly priced at $14 for a half dozen and $26 for a full dozen. We have also ordered the Hot Combination (including a half dozen of each preparation) for the same pricing. During Happy Hour in the lounge area, we have enjoyed fresh chilled 75-cent oysters on the half shell by the dozens at a single sitting.
