If you like ethnic restaurants to be authentic and not an EPCOT fantasy reproduction, then Old San Juan will be a treat. I suggest you be familiar with Puerto Rican cusine, because their menu represents the favorties from the island. The atmosphere can make you feel like you are in the real Old San Juan; latin music and spanish spoken if you want realism to enhance your experience. Family owned and operated gives a personal touch to the dining experience. Pricing is very reasonable and the portions are generous. Best positive: finding the flavors and dishes you crave or need to try. Worst negative: often don’t have all of the menu offerings available.
Dishes Tried:
El Convento
This is a seasoned roast pork ( Pernil) served with a yellowed rice with gandules (arroz con gandules). I like it with a side of plantains, that are fried (tostones) or even better, ripe ones called maduros.
I had it with passion fruit juice (parcha) for my beverage and flan de queso for dessert. It was cooked traditionally and exceeded my expectations.
