Favorite of Celebrities and Locals
This restaurant is off the beaten path but getting there by street car was half the fun. Nestled in a mostly residential neighborhood, you knew this was a special place the moment you walked in. Photos of satisfied customers hung throughout the restaurant. These satisfied customers were a who’s who of Americana from the film, music, sports and political scene. It seems that this has been a favorite spot for celebrities for almost 100 years. Come early and enjoy the Oyster Bar. Thomas has been shucking oysters there for over 20 years and had great stories to share.
Dishes Tried:
Barbeque Shrimp
We were told you have to have the barbecue shrimp when you visit this restaurant. This dish is served elsewhere but was developed here. Why it is called barbecue shrimp is beyond me as it does not have barbecue sauce nor is it grilled. The large shrimp are plentiful and are served with their heads still on. They do provide bibs for everyone as this dish is very messy to eat. The shrimp are served in a large bowl with a small loaf of crusty bread. The bread is for dipping in the very rich and flavorful sauce that the shrimp are on. It is very buttery and has a nice blend of seasonings and flavor. It paired well with the grilled asparagus.
