Something different, something great

If you are a traditional pizza lover, you may not like Pizza Antica. But if you like food with a twist, give Pizza Antica a try! Their pizzas have a really thin crust, so they are always fabulously crispy. The lack of sauce on their pizzas also make the crust much crispier, and I prefer less saucy pizzas. But the most noticable thing about Pizza Antica are their ingredients… don’t expect your typical pepperoni and mushroom pizza, all their ingredients are kind of exotic – the most “normal” pizza they offer is their spicy fennel sausage, portabello mushrooms, caramelized onions… yum! (That, by the way, is my favorite pizza they offer — the #4.) You can also create your own pizza for not much more than the pizzas on their set menu, which is a nice option. I took some friends here once who weren’t too excited about the exotic flavors (pancetta and arugula were a mystery to them), but we custom ordered a nice marinated chicken, artichoke, and roasted red pepper pizza, and they were quite happy with that.

The only cons about their pizzas is that they’re a little small (a large can easily feed 2 light-appetited people) and because they’re so thin, they tend to get cold pretty quickly.

Pizza Antica far surpasses other gourmet pizza restaurants (California Pizza Kitchen can’t hold a candle to it) and is by far, the best restaurant at Santana Row, both in flavor and value.

Spicy Fennel Sausage, Portobello Mushroom and Roasted Onion

Good for people who don’t want to try something too far outside the box, but still wonderfully tasty.

Heirloom Potato, Caramelized Onion and White Truffle Oil

A unique taste, and great for vegetarian friends who still love pizza. The white truffle oil does get a little overwhelming, so I like ordering this pizza when I’m splitting a few with friends.

Good pizza, good service and nice ambiance....

Good pizza, good service and nice ambiance.
The pizza varieties they offer are not like the typical ones; examples are bartlett pear, garlic and cream cheese or three cheese, shaved broccoli and pancetta.
My personal favorite is the fennel sausage, portabella mushrooms and onion pizza. The small size is about the size of a CPK pizza only thin crust so its crispy.
They have entrees too—the gnocchi is good.
If you like dessert—try their panna cotta :)

Delicious pizza that doesn't feel too heavy

Surprisingly for being located in Santana Row, the food isn’t ridiculously expensive. If you like flat (super pancake like flat) pizza, this is the place for you. Finally, a pizza place where I don’t feel like I’m in a food coma after eating it. Many people I’ve gone with have liked the gnocchi, but I tihnk I just need to conclude that I’m not a gnocchi fan for the most part.

Service was attentive though I do find it a little odd that if you ask for water, they actually ask if you want tap or bottled. I can imagine sitting in the outdoor seating when it’s a nice warm spring or summer day and people watching as we eat.

Like some of the other reviewers said, the portions are a little small. My server suggested splitting a large pizza and an appetizer for two people, but we ended up just splitting two large pizzas among three people and that seemed to work out for us.

Spicy Fennel Sausage, Portobello Mushroom and Roasted Onion

Probably the closest pizza to a “regular” pizza you’ve had outside. The sauage is delicious as are the mushrooms. This is just a good pizza in general. Meat eaters will love this as you can really taste the sausage.

Spicy Calabrese Sausage, Onions, Peppers, Parsley

Mmm, more meat. I apparently like to eat out with people who love meat. The sausage had a nice spicy kick to it and definitely flavored the onions and peppers. There was a nice balance of flavors, but I thought it was a tad bit heavy. Then again I’m not a huge sausage on pizza fan to begin with.

Grilled Radicchio, Local Goat Cheese, Pancetta and Pesto

I really liked this pizza, but I don’t mind the flavor of radicchio like some people do. The goat cheese was very mild which let its creaminess mesh well with the crispy salty pancetta. There were also dabs of pesto scattered through the pizza. Altogether very delcious.
