Simply The Best Pizza in SD

Run, do not walk, to Pizzeria Bruno Napoletano on Park Blvd, just a half block south of El Cajon. Blvd.

This is without a doubt the absolute best pizza in San Diego, and the only true, authentic Napoletano pizza. The dough for the pizza is made daily and hand stretched. The sauce is also made daily, deeply flavorful and not overly sweet. The pies are cooked in a blistering hot wood fired pizza oven which blisters and slightly chars the crust giving it a nice chewy texture and somewhat smokey flavor.

Their salads are very fresh, if not a little underdressed. But none of the food is heavy. Portions are generous and splitting a salad and pizza with a friend will fill you up without weighing you down.

If you’re looking for gigantic, cheap, carb laden pizza to fill you up, this isn’t your place. If, however, you’re looking for light, delicious pizza where the flavors are focused, bright and light, high tail it over to Pizzeria Bruno and dig in. You won’t regret it.

Mixed Green Salad

A large salad of various mixed greens served in a shallow soup plate, big enough for 2 to split. The salad mix was mostly young tender boutique lettuces – aka Spring Mix – with nary a leaf of romain, butter or iceberg to be seen. It was accented with toasted walnuts, shavings of parmesan cheese and a few dried cranberries thrown in for good measure.

The greens were clearly fresh and very tender, thought a bit too heavy on the bitter greens. The salad came with a balsamic vinaigrette that was tasty but there wasn’t enough of it. The salad needed more dressing, or to be tossed a little more thoroughly before being sent out to the table. But all in all, this was an excellent salad and paired well with our pizza.

Pizza VerdeBruno

Stellar 12" pizza topped with 3 cheeses – mozzarella, parmesan and ricotta, along with a couple generous handfuls of arugula. No red sauce on this pizza.

Thin, slightly charred crust was chewy and the perfect vehicle for the luscious cheeses and peppery bite of the arugula. One of the best pizzas I’ve had in San Diego in the last 10 years. This pizza would also make a good choice for a vegetarian meal.
