Ramen + butter = good

I’ve never had ramen in Japan, but I’d imagine it to taste like this! The weekday lunch combos with gyoza are divine. Watch out though, because it’s a popular place and can be busy during the week.

It’s a small restaurant, with bar-style seating. But they do show Japanese game shows, and have comic books available so you’ve got stuff to do while you wait.

Butter corn ramen

My favorite flavor of ramen. It has corn and butter and it’s just deelish.

Ramen anyone? Yes? You're at a good place. :)

My honest opinion: Maruichi is better.

Should you check out this place? Why yes!

They have a great lunch combo that comes with a ramen of your choice, a bowl of fried rice, and (I believe) 3 pieces of gyoza. Most people will get full with this, but being the person that I am, I decided to get a regular-sized ramen and an order of gyoza this time around.

Yup, those two did the trick. I was full!!

The service wasn’t bad, but I did have to ask for the barley tea refill. But that’s probably because they are way too busy. No way are you getting in here quickly if you come in a big group. You really better come early, or be ready to wait…or I suppose, be ready to ditch your friends to get a taste of something…well…tasty! :)

Yes, they do have a bunch of mangas and a tv show that’s on. It’s actually kind of interesting to watch the people watching the tv show. Try that sometime while you’re eating.

Miso Ramen

Yum yum yum. I really like ramen in general, but it never fills me up so I avoid them usually. This one? Yup, pretty filling!

There’s something about this gyoza. It was just…good.

Not your $.10 ramen

Ryowa is definitely one of the best (if not the best) ramen house in the bay area. There are two in the downtown Mountain View area: Maruichi and Ryowa. IMHO, Maruichi’s portions aren’t very generous for the price you pay. Ryowa has an authentic ramen house feel, and the service is very efficient.

Shoyu Ramen

Execellent tasting ramen. Generous portions of meat.

A must have. There are 5 or 6 gyozas per order.

Pork Fried Rice

If you still have room in your stomach, definitely get this. I know…it’s just fried rice. It’s damn tasty though.

Hits the spot

I’m not a ramen connoisseur, but I think Ryowa is pretty good. It’s a nice blend of a down-to-earth atmosphere, friendly service and tasty food. Plus, they have japanese shows on tv to make it feel more japanese.

I’ve had the best luck coming on off hours so there’s no wait – late lunch or early dinner.

Miso Ramen

Chicken Karaage

Tasty fried chicken. It’s actually a meal portion so it’s good to split with a few people. It’s pretty meaty.

good ramen bar

ryowa is my first visit to a ramen noodle house, (so i’m no expert w/ramen) but i’m happy i went. i’m a big fan of noodles in general, and the noodles i ate at ryowa didn’t disappoint. nothing mind-blowing, but solid nonetheless. it has a cute homey, cozy, ‘bar style’ w/one 2-person table tucked in between 2 adjacent bars seating about 12 people each.

i wouldn’t mind going back again.

Dumplings and Noodle Soup

a salty soup base w/a large serving size of yellow ramen noodles (not overcooked & mushy, but squishy…almost al dente for a lack of a better description). the dumplings don’t have much wrapper on them, which made me sad…but they were meaty. i’d order this noodle dish again — i’m a sucker for dumplings AND noodles, put them together and i’m bound to order that dish wherever i may be.

I don’t know why people go to this place. The food is eatable, but nowhere as good as Maru-Ichi just around the corner and down the street. The service is slow and bad! This is probably the worst of all the ramen places in the South Bay.
