Sakura-Bana: A Japanese Staple in Ridgewood, NJ

Before sushi bars became so trendy that they could be found on every street corner in Bergen County, Sakura Bana appeared in Ridgewood and delighted customers with its fresh seafood and meals. Featuring free delivery with a $25 order to local towns, Sakura Bana makes it easy to enjoy Japanese food either in their small restaurant or in your own home. Just remember to call ahead, because you will wait for over twenty minutes for your meal to be assembled if you don’t!

Sakura Bana is the restaurant that introduced me to the illustrious California Roll. Now a sushi and sashimi addict, I was a novice during my first forays into Sakura Bana. Inside, the cozy eatery has efficient service and visible sushi chefs on staff. The restaurant is clean and is often crowded. The only complaint that patrons may have is that it is very difficult to find convenient parking in order to eat here. During the summer months, people park somewhere in downtown Ridgewood and hike up to Sakura-Bana.

Complimentary tea is served as you peruse the menu. They offer what now would be considered “typical” Japanese menu items—miso soup, rolls, fatty tuna—and their food is always fresh. The prices are on the high side, but that does not seem to deter the crowds coming in for take-out and to dine in. However, Sakura-Bana manages to stay in the game by specials such as their prix fixe kitchen menu on Mondays for $20.

The Ridgewood roll, for example, is a menu favorite—made with eel, shrimp, crab sticks—a $9.00 treat to be sure. I go with the more “mundane” spicy tuna roll for $4.50, and for a splurge, the Spider Roll, which is an “inside out” roll topped with roe, for $12.00. The sushi and sashimi combination dinner, which is one of my favorites if I’m really splurging on food, costs $25.00. Each piece of fish is so artfully prepared, and so fresh and buttery, that it feels worth it to eat such delicious Japanese cuisine.

Because of Sakura Bana’s committment to excellent food service and artistic preparation of sushi, this Japanese restaurant remains a staple in the community. If you are looking for reliable service, fresh fish, and a Japanese food experience, visit Sakura Bana.

Sushi and Sashimi Combo

One of the “Rolls Royce” options on the menu. Fresh, delicious sashimi like salmon, tuna, mackerel, and sushi. Just clean, fresh fish that delights your palate.
