Vegan Options

My sister and I, both of us VEGAN, are always looking for vegan friendly restaurants. With that being said, were were excited to try this new Indian restaurant based on the menu which we received in the mail indicating lots of Vegan dishes. We finally got the opportunity to go on a Saturday evening towards the end of Jun-2012. The restaurant decor was charming and the place was super clean (always a major plus!!). The staff was very friendly, efficient, and did their best to make our visit a pleasant experience especially after we expressed that we were Vegan and had some questions about the menu. We ordered Papadam as our appetizer. For entrees, my sister opted for the mildly spiced Aloo Ghobi and I selected just Aloo extra spicey. We also ordered some Tandoori Roti. The menu had stated that Basmati rice would be served with all entrees so we did not have to order that as a side order. We sipped on nice frozen drinks from the bar and snacked on the papadam (nicely presented and very good) while we awaited for the food. The waiter brought our entrees to the table and they looked yummy. Then he put down the dish of rice and state that it was a little non-vegan. We stated that true Vegans do not eat rice that is even a little non-vegan!! Apparently all their rice is cooked with milk and butter to our disappointment. Luckily the entrees that we had were not the type that really need rice with so we did without. The entrees were absolutely delicious! Cooked to perfection and spiced just like we requested. The Tandoori Roti was superb. We expressed several times to the staff that they really should consider having a vegan option for the rice. I am not sure they were really listening to us though! We paid the bill and tipped well. I filled out the comment card just to make sure that I once again expressed the need for a vegan rice option, just hoping that someone listens so that we can enjoy other entrees on the menu which are more rice needy. Highly recommended. Vegans beware of the rice!!

Aloo Ghobi

Excellent….Kudos to the chef except for the non-vegan rice!!
