This is the best sushi in Denver; there’s no other way to say it. You probably need reservations to get in, as I’ve had to do each time I’ve been.
People ask me a lot, as I’ve lived in Japan for 7 years, where the good fish is. In Denver, sushi places are going up like McDonald’s, and only a select few of them are good. In that elite list, Tazu, Sushi Han, Sushi Den, and Sushi Sasa. Out of those four, Sushi Sasa brings it home.
Despite the fact that the restaurant is professionally rated as a 5-star dining experience, of which I am always skeptical, SS delivers in every way. The menu is broad and diverse, spanning traditional sushi items and a la carte nigiri and gunkan styles, as well as innovating some wonderful fusion dishes which I honestly never expected to be so good.
Parking – well, it’s downtown near the Platte but they have a small dedicated lot. Atmosphere is very cordial; dress as business casual unless you want to look like a toerag in there. Service is prompt and proactive, but they leave you alone enough to enjoy a quiet convo and meal.
Must try: bear the extra few bucks and get the zensai. It’s like a big tapas platter with a good assortment of stuff on it. The mexican chili scallops were amazingly good.
