The Purple Pig..Great Dining and People Watching on the Rive
On a recent business trip in downtown Chicago we stopped at The Pig for wine and small plates. It was a Tuesday night at 6pm and the place was packed. We sat at the community table so we didn’t have to wait…at least 30 minutes.
Never been to the restaurant before the waitress was really accommodating explaining the dishes. We ordered house wine, large pours ….never thinking the cost would be $19. Ask before you order.
The service was attentive and the food arrived fairly quickly. We shared 3 plates and a desert.
Dishes Tried:
calamari
We ordered 3 small plates. All were exceptional.
Calamari with fregola, radishes, cucumbers and pistachios. Full of flavor and cooked to perfection.
Next was eggplant Capanata …With goat cheese. Warm with crusty bread smeared with cheese ..All I could think of was how good it was with wine!
Next we shared a salad of butter lettuce, jerky…., snow peas, chicken peas and Mizithra….dressing. We almost couldn’t finish the salad. A lot of food for $35.
I would definitely go back again.

Mediterranean and Delicious
We went here on a double date and walked in (no res) on a Saturday night and sat right down at a great table on the patio. The tapas-style menu was full of variet and we enjoyed everything we ate! From the cheeses to the sea food to the pork, all of it was simply delicious. The atmosphere was great too, though we did have to put up with a few ambulance sirens – a small price to pay for a great dinner out on a great patio with great friends. YUM.
