Excellent food, great value

Well, the atmosphere is the traffic and noise of Victory Blvd, but the quality and consistency of the food, and excellent value more than make up for it.

They deliver to the neighborhood, or you can get it to go. But I like my food piping hot, fresh off the stove, so I brave the wilds of Valley traffic, order my dinner, and grab a seat at one of the shady theft-proof cast concrete table/benches and await my food.

Back in the 1950’s, Vietnam was called French Indochina. Vietnamese cuisine is, basically, Chinese food gone French. It makes perfect sense. Lots of veggies, thinly sliced meats, shrimp, rice, and hot stuff, with elegant sauces and clever yet tasty uses of native foodstuffs as the French are wont to do. The result is a wide variety of delicious dishes. I’ve tried many items, and have yet to be disappointed. If it sounds good, you’ll probably like it. Even if it doesn’t sound all that good, it probably is.

Chicken Panang

This is my favorite!

Thinly sliced chicken with a rich, thick coconut milk-curry cream sauce, served over white rice. Very tasty, and a LARGE portion, served over lots of rice. There’s enough for two average appetites. Vic’s doesn’t scrimp on portions. They also serve beef panang (also very good) and shrimp panang (I’ve never tried it – I’m not fond of shrimp – but my guess is that shrimp lovers would love it). You can order it mild or spicy. Be forewarned. The mild is still pretty spicy. The hot has hot green peppers. They’re not just “hot”. They add a lot of flavor.

A large cup of thai iced tea is the perfect complement, and cuts a lot of the “hot” when you bite into a hunk of hot pepper.

Don't eat here. Trust me when I say this.

I didn't like this place at all. Plus, they've been in business since 1978. I would expect better from them. They also got my order wrong. The only thing I did like is the thai drink. I wouldn't go there again.
