Yenching Restaurant

There’s really only two choices for Chinese food in Harvard Square: Yenching and Hong Kong Cafe. I’ve never been to the latter, but everyone who has tells me to stay away. So I guess Yenching is good by association.

The food is pretty good. It came out reasonably fast and there wasn’t a wait to get in. There’s a good mix of chinese food and americanized chinese food. Chinese and other nationalities seemed pretty happy.

If you have time to go to Chinatown, there’s better Chinese there. If not, this seems like the best option in Harvard Square

After we got our rolls and soup from the luncheon menu, we had to wait for about 30 minutes, but the rest of the order was not served. Couple of times we politely asked whether our food was coming soon, receiving abrupt “Will check” in return. Dirty dishes were kept on our table all the time, and would not be removed even when we (politely) asked to do that. We had no choice but leave, since the lunch hour was almost over. The waiter (or the boss, whoever he is) chased us only to charge us for the rolls and soups. Nobody would say “sorry” or try to fix the situation. This was the last time I lunched there.
